On 08/21/2026 at approximately 11:35 p.m., an unidentified adult man was shot and killed by a Prince George’s County Police Department officer in the 4500 block of Reamy Drive in Suitland, Maryland.

Prince George’s County police said officers in marked cruisers saw two vehicles near Suitland Road, Randolph Road and Reamy Drive and began following them. The vehicles turned onto Reamy Drive, which police described as a narrow, dimly lit dead-end street. Current reporting does not explain why officers began following the vehicles, and NBC Washington reported that the department had not answered that question.

Police alleged that one of the vehicles then left the roadway, drove through a residential yard and moved toward officers. One officer fired a service weapon, striking the driver. Authorities have not yet explained precisely what the officer perceived, whether any weapon was recovered from the driver or vehicle, or how many rounds were fired.

Officers provided medical aid before emergency personnel transported the man to a hospital, where he died.

The Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is investigating the killing. The officer who fired has been placed on administrative leave. Investigators said the officers involved were wearing body-worn cameras. Under the IID’s normal process, the names of the decedent and involved officer are generally released within two business days.
