Police said traffic on I-44 had slowed for an unknown reason when the driver of a northbound semi-truck failed to slow and struck another vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles, including a Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department patrol vehicle.

The semi left the roadway and rolled into a ditch. The semi driver was killed. Another vehicle caught fire following the collision, killing two people inside. The three people killed have not yet been publicly identified in the reporting reviewed.
