On 08/20/2026, shortly before 3:00 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 10110 Morningside Drive in unincorporated Lake County near Leesburg after a 911 caller reported an armed domestic battery.

According to LCSO Sgt. Jim Vachon, deputies encountered 32-year-old Erik Leopold Sharpe, who police said was armed with a handgun. Authorities have not yet released a detailed account of Sharpe’s actions immediately before the shooting. Vachon said Sharpe’s actions caused deputies to fire their weapons. Sharpe was shot and killed.
