On 09/20/2025, Officer Jacob Buckwald was involved in a two-vehicle collision on Butler Avenue in Flagstaff. The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Buckwald was hospitalized with minor injuries and later released.
This fatal crash follows a previous incident in July 2024 when Buckwald was involved in another serious crash documented at well over 70 miles per hour, which caused devastating injuries. He was suspended after that crash. He was reinstated to limited duty in late 2024 and only cleared back for full patrol duty in August 2025.
The department has suggested that Buckwald was allegedly “impaired” due to seizure medication in the earlier wreck. The department has not explained the cause of the possible impairment and repeat crashes caused by this officer. Allowing him to resume patrol duties despite prior dangerous crashes raises serious questions about oversight and accountability. Following the September 2025 crash, Officer Buckwald resigned from the Flagstaff Police Department.

On 09/22/2025 at about 5:00 a.m., Pasadena Police attempted to stop a vehicle. The driver refused to stop, and police escalated a chase that lasted less than one minute before being terminated. Nearly a mile later, the vehicle crashed into the garage of a home in the 300 block of Orange Grove Avenue near Columbia Street in South Pasadena. On 09/13/2025, Maine State Police received reports of a vehicle driving erratically southbound on Interstate 295 near Yarmouth. On 08/31/2025, 37-year-old Larry Sellers Jr. was driving a white Infiniti Q70 on Napier Avenue in Macon when Bibb County sheriff’s deputies began pursuing him near Fairmont Avenue. Police have not publicly disclosed the specific reason deputies initially attempted to stop Sellers or what prompted the pursuit.

Shortly afterward, multiple people called 911 to report that a white Infiniti had crashed into Abundant Word of Grace Church of God in Christ at 3396 Napier Avenue. Georgia State Patrol determined that it was the same Infiniti that Bibb County deputies had been pursuing.

The Infiniti crashed through a brick exterior wall of the church, causing extensive damage to both the vehicle and the building. The collision damaged the church’s sanctuary and other portions of the structure.

Sellers survived the initial impact and got out of the Infiniti. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Sellers ran approximately 50 yards from the wrecked vehicle before collapsing. He died at the scene.

Jones said Sellers had no obvious external injuries when his body was examined. Because of the absence of visible trauma, the precise medical cause of his death was not immediately apparent. Jones said the vehicle’s airbag had deployed and initially suspected that Sellers may have sustained internal trauma to his heart during the collision. An autopsy was ordered to determine the medical cause of death.

On 08/30/2025, at approximately 1:20 a.m., 41-year-old Samuel Holmes IV of Kansas City, Kansas, was driving a silver Chevrolet Tahoe north on Interstate 35 south of Chouteau Trafficway when a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper began following him. The patrol said the trooper observed the Tahoe failing to remain within a single lane and nearly striking a guardrail several times. Those observations—not a later offense during the pursuit—were the specific reason the trooper initiated the traffic stop. Police said the trooper suspected Holmes was impaired.

Holmes initially pulled over for the trooper. According to the Highway Patrol, he then drove away from the traffic stop and the trooper pursued him north on Interstate 35. The pursuit lasted approximately one minute and covered roughly one mile.

At approximately 1:21 a.m., south of the North Brighton Avenue exit, the trooper deliberately struck the rear portion of Holmes' Tahoe using what the Highway Patrol calls a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, or TVI, which is the agency's term for a PIT maneuver. On 08/29/2025, at approximately 1:24 a.m., 20-year-old Christian Robert Markus Snyder of Norfolk was riding a motorcycle west on Interstate 264 when a Virginia State Police trooper near the Laskin Road overpass detected the motorcycle traveling at more than 100 mph in a 55-mph zone. The excessive speed was the specific reason the trooper attempted to stop Snyder.
