On January 18, 2024, 20-year-old Fernando Barajas-Reyes was killed while riding as a front-seat passenger in a 2016 Ford Fusion that crashed following a police pursuit in Stanislaus County. The pursuit began when Ceres Police attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle fled southbound on Highway 99. After exiting at Mitchell Road, the car sped east on Keyes Road and collided with a Ford Mustang at Geer Road. Barajas-Reyes was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash also left two other passengers and the teen driver of the Mustang hospitalized. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.

On January 14, 2024, Wethersfield Police escalated a pursuit of a vehicle that was driving erratically. Coldiron was driving a black Dodge Challenger and entered the northbound lanes of Interstate 435 near Missouri 210 Highway, traveling southbound against traffic.

Officers called off the chase upon Coldiron’s entry into oncoming traffic. Shortly thereafter, the fleeing vehicle collided head-on with a Chevrolet Equinox driven by 60-year-old Alphonso "Duke" Carroll, who was en route to work. Both Coldiron and Carroll were pronounced dead at the site.

Menona Police chased a vehicle until it crashed and all 3 occupants died. Police gave no reason for the chase other that an officer found the vehicle “suspicious.”

On 12/31/2023, deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on 36-year-old Kyle Last, a person of interest in a burglary investigation. Last allegedly hit a deputy's patrol car when driving away. Officers from the Ocala Police Department located Last and escalated the chase. He crashed into a Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate business at the intersection of East Fort King Street and 22nd Avenue. Last died as a result of the crash.

REASON FOR CHASE: Driving without headlights and failing to maintain a single lane.

NARRATIVE: On 12/30/2023, 47-year-old Douglas Alfredo Gonzalez Cerna of Lewisville was killed when a Dodge Charger fleeing an attempted Denton Police Department traffic stop crashed into the sedan in which he was a rear-seat passenger on southbound Interstate 35E. At approximately 3:16 a.m., a Denton officer observed the Charger traveling without headlights and failing to maintain a single lane. When the officer activated emergency lights to make a traffic stop, 18-year-old driver Jonathan Vargas accelerated to more than 100 mph. Approximately 30 seconds after the attempted stop began, the Charger struck the rear of Gonzalez Cerna’s sedan, forcing it off the interstate and onto the service road near Wind River Lane. Gonzalez Cerna was pronounced dead. The sedan’s driver and front passenger were hospitalized and later released. Vargas survived and was arrested for intoxication manslaughter and evading arrest/detention with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury or death.
