On September 8, 2025, at about 8:22 p.m., a Citrus Heights police officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist for vehicle code violations near Antelope Road and Wonder Street. The motorcyclist driving. Police escalated a chase during which he reportedly drove at high speeds, ran red lights and stop signs, turned off his headlights, and drove into oncoming traffic. The chase ended at the intersection of Antelope Road and Mariposa Avenue, where the motorcycle collided with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured. The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene.

On 09/06/2025, a Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a crash at the intersection of Cherry Valley Boulevard and Desert Lawn Drive in Calimesa. The individual retreated inside and an audible weapon being racked was heard. Deputies pulled back and called in SWAT and negotiators. Hanson Elementary School was evacuated out of caution. After nearly nine hours of attempted contact, SWAT entered the residence around 6:30 p.m. and found the individual unresponsive in a closet. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

On 08/24/2025 at approximately 1:45 p.m., Fresno Police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex near Blythe and Austin Avenue. Joseph Merical, 35, barricaded himself inside the apartment with two kitchen knives. When officers partially forced open the door, he moved toward them with the knives. A standoff followed with negotiators and SWAT at the scene. Hours later, Merical exited the apartment and moved toward officers in the parking lot while still holding the knives. Police fired non-lethal weapons followed by bullets. Merical was struck, taken to a hospital, and pronounced dead. This was the fifth police shooting in Fresno this year.

On August 23, 2025, an unidentified man was shot and killed in the front yard of a residence on the 2300 block of West 23rd Street in Jefferson Park, Los Angeles. LAPD officers responding to gunfire found the victim dead outside. The armed man fired at officers and barricaded himself inside the home, triggering an eight-hour SWAT standoff. Officers and a crisis negotiation team attempted to make contact but were unsuccessful. The subject, identified as 57-year-old Dennis Martz, pointed a firearm at officers, leading to an officer-involved shooting in which he was fatally shot. Medical aid was rendered at the scene, but Martz died from his injuries. At approximately 4:55 a.m. on 08/14/2025, the man exited the home armed with a firearm and advanced toward officers. A SWAT officer opened fire, striking him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:57 a.m. His name has not yet been released by authorities. Remick was one of the two officers who killed Montaño. In February 2025, Remick and Officer Jessica Khalil fatally shot Jose Mendez-Rios, who they believed was armed but was holding only a knife sheath. On 07/08/2025 at approximately 11:15 p.m., Glendale Police Department officers attempted a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle driven by Shawn Justin Towne, 51. Towne failed to stop and a short pursuit began. The chase continued for about one mile before Towne's vehicle collided with another car at Verdugo Road and Wilson Avenue and then struck a utility pole.
