On 12/29/2025, 46-year-old Alan Rush was shot and killed by a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) officer in the Oceanway neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. Officers were conducting a task force operation looking for a burglary and stolen-car suspect when they approached a vehicle on Ponce Boulevard after the suspect entered it. One person was taken into custody, and Officer Zachary Jennings approached the driver, later identified as Rush. According to JSO, Rush resisted commands, aggressively fought with the officer, and during the struggle produced a firearm. Officer Jennings then shot Rush in the head. Rush died at the scene. Police also recovered a gun and various narcotics from the vehicle. The State Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting, and JSO will conduct an administrative review.

On 12/12/2025, a police pursuit in Titusville began after a vehicle failed to stop for officers and continued at high speeds through local streets. The chase involved a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu that had been struck by stop-sticks deployed by law enforcement. The vehicle headed south on Barna Avenue toward Nicklaus Drive when it left the roadway and collided with a palm tree, a fence, and a sign before coming to rest. On 12/05/2025, deputies responded to a domestic battery call at the Jamison Apartments in Kissimmee. The man locked himself inside the unit and a standoff lasted for several hours as negotiators and family tried to persuade him to surrender. During the standoff he streamed on Facebook Live, showed a handgun and made suicidal statements. Deputies later deployed a chemical agent to force him out. He came out lying on the ground but still held the gun and fired a shot. Deputies opened fire and killed him. Residents described the scene as tense with tactical teams, shields and patrol cars surrounding the complex for much of the day.

On 12/03/2025 deputies served a search warrant at a home in Palmetto Estates as part of a child-porn investigation involving his brother. Upon entry deputies encountered Christopher Barata with a gun. Deputies fired their service weapons. Christopher Barata died at the scene. His 25-year-old brother, Cristian Barata, was taken into custody on child pornography charges.

On 11/22/2025 at approximately 6:41 p.m., deputies responded to a reported home invasion at a residence near Southwest 141st Street and 110th Avenue in the Richmond Heights neighborhood of Kendall. Four invaders attempted to forcibly enter the home. The homeowner fired toward them and struck one in the upper extremities. The injured suspect was transported by fire rescue to a hospital in critical condition and later died. The other three persons fled and remain at large.

On 11/22/2025, Todd Donahue, age 51, died after being taken into police custody in Bradenton, Florida. Donahue called 911 stating that he believed he was being chased by the cartel. Officers later received an additional call reporting a person acting erratically. Police located Donahue and determined he met the criteria for involuntary mental health detention under the Florida Baker Act. Officers attempted to take him into custody for transport to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Police have not disclosed the amount or type of force used during the detention. While being transported to the hospital in EMS custody, Donahue became unresponsive. He was pronounced dead later at the hospital. On 11/21/2025, deputies went to a home on Governors Way for an eviction requested by the man’s mother. Police reported that once inside the home the man fired a gun and hit several people. One deputy died and another deputy and a locksmith were injured. Deputies opened fire and hit him. He was taken to a hospital and died from his injuries on 11/23/2025.

On 11/19/2025 deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded after a call that a 91-year-old man had been beaten with a brick. Kentae Govan allegedly then charged at deputies as they arrived. Officers opened fire and killed him at the scene.

On 11/14/2025, officers from the Orlando Police Department served a search warrant at a tattoo shop at 4864 Edgewater Drive near Lee Road targeting multiple suspects believed to have criminal histories. Officers say at approximately 2:05 p.m. a man emerged from the business armed with an AK-47 style rifle and then ran back inside. Officers fired at the man and he barricaded himself inside the business. Just after 3:00 p.m., SWAT entered the building and found the man dead inside. No officers were reported injured.

On 11/11/2025, 62-year-old Paul Maraio shot and killed two of his neighbors in the Tropical East community of Port St. Lucie, Florida. After the shootings, Maraio entered another home and took a 77-year-old woman hostage, holding her for over an hour while barricaded inside. He was transported to a hospital and died from his injuries. On 11/06/2025 at approximately 7:15 a.m., a deputy from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office patrolling near the Walmart Supercenter at 21151 South Dixie Highway in Goulds attempted to contact an individual reported by a loss-prevention officer to be actively stealing 3 or 4 items. The man, 36-year-old Kennedy Graham, fled on foot from the deputy, who pursued. A physical confrontation occurred at the store entrance during which Graham was found armed. The deputy discharged his weapon, striking Graham, who collapsed just outside the store and died later at the hospital. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the deputy-involved shooting.

On 11/06/2025, deputies with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by U.S. Marshals and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, served a warrant on 38-year-old Ali Ihsan Bayhan for making terroristic threats against several elected officials and a Jewish temple in Tallahassee. When agents approached his residence on Northwest 16th Boulevard near 35th Way, Bayhan exited the unit armed with a handgun, refused commands, and reached for his weapon. Deputies and marshals fired, striking and killing him at the scene. Six Alachua County deputies are on paid administrative leave while the FDLE investigates.

On November 2, 2025, deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed 27-year-old Mario Camacho during a domestic violence call in Brandon. Deputies were dispatched after reports that Camacho was choking his 7-year-old brother and armed with a knife. When they entered the home, Camacho was wearing a motorcycle helmet and ballistic vests, barricaded in a bedroom with the child. After he refused repeated commands to release the boy or drop the weapon, Deputy Antonio Gonzalez opened fire. Camacho was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The child was rescued unharmed.

On 11/01/2025, Padmini Waldron, age 47, was found dead alongside her husband in their DeLand home at 9097 Cape Cod Road. Investigators determined her husband shot her and then killed himself, making this a case of murder-suicide. The couple had been married for 12 years.

On October 31, 2025 at about 6:30 a.m., the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting and stabbing at a home on Beacon Way in Santa Rosa Beach. A 29-year-old man, Jared Andrew Keller, confronted deputies in the front yard armed first with a knife and then with a firearm after failing verbal commands. Deputies fired, killing Keller. Inside the home, two elderly victims (a brother and sister) had been stabbed; one died, the other was hospitalized and later released. The incident is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The driver did not stop. The pickup reversed toward and nearly struck a patrol vehicle, then accelerated forward toward an officer positioned in front of the vehicle. An officer fired his weapon, striking Louivens Ceus, 24, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck was believed to be stolen and spray-painted black; a meth pipe and stolen medical marijuana were reportedly found. The two officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave and the Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting.

On 10/24/2025, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers responded to a domestic battery call at a residence on the 9400 block of Harriet Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida. The caller told dispatchers they did not want to press charges and that 32-year-old Rashaud Van Martin was schizophrenic and off his medication. When officers arrived, Martin fled on foot, tripped, and was taken into custody. On 10/13/2025, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a motorcyclist for reckless driving in the Yamato Road / Technology Way area. The motorcyclist fled and was tracked by aerial units. The pursuit ended at a plaza, where the driver produced a firearm and shot himself in the head. He was transported to Broward North Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

On 10/09/2025, two Miami Police officers were shot during a confrontation with 27-year-old Mason Triana in the Allapattah neighborhood. Police had responded to reports of a disturbance and possible gunfire. As officers arrived, Triana opened fire, hitting a female officer in the ankle and a male sergeant in the knee. On or about 09/24/2025, deputies responded to a report of battery at Links Edge Condominiums on Saxony Circle, Deep Creek. While deputies were speaking with the alleged victim, 50-year-old Daniel Burch reportedly approached and a verbal altercation escalated. A scuffle ensued, and at least one deputy discharged at least three shots. Burch was hit at least twice and transported by air to a hospital. Overnight, his condition declined and he died on the morning of 09/25/2025. The deputy involved was taken to hospital for heart issues (not from gunfire) and was later released. The Sheriff’s Office has placed the deputy on administrative leave, and the incident is under investigation.

On 09/19/2025 at about 6:35 p.m., Fort Lauderdale Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 3800 block of Northeast 34th Avenue. Officers were told the person inside might be armed and experiencing a mental health crisis. A perimeter was established. SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Team responded. A single gunshot was later heard inside the home. A drone was used to check inside, and the person was found dead. No contact was made with them before the gunshot.

On 09/17/2025, Seminole County deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant on 68-year-old retired firefighter Gary Guckenberger at his Longwood home for child pornography charges. Guckenberger exited his residence using a walker and pulled a .38 revolver, pointing it at deputies. Deputies opened fire, killing him. Investigators had previously seized his devices containing over 100 videos and 200 photos of child sexual exploitation of children ages 3-9.

On 09/16/2025, deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office pursued burglary suspects traveling in a gray Chevrolet Suburban. The chase ended in a head-on collision on South Old Kings Road when the vehicle crashed and a bystander was killed in the crash.

On 09/16/2025, a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office sergeant responded to reports of a man waving a gun in the Goulds neighborhood near Southwest 122nd Avenue. The man, described as a Latino male in his 40s, was inside a minivan. He allegedly opened fire on the sergeant. The sergeant shot and killed him.

On 09/16/2025, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a suspicious incident at a home on Bay Drive in Pompano Beach. Deputies said 38-year-old Esterlin Appolon barricaded himself inside the residence with a gun. He reportedly fired at a drone deployed by deputies and later attacked a K-9 that was sent inside. A SWAT team then entered the home, and deputies opened fire, killing him.

On 09/13/2025, deputies with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6700 block of Southwest 4th Place in Gainesville after reports of an armed man pounding on a residence door. The man, identified as 55-year-old Darian D. Holmes, was engaged in a 40-minute standoff with deputies. Holmes had a handgun and four deputies opened fire, striking Holmes. He was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
