On 06/13/2025, Polk County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a property at 123 West Frostproof Baptist Church Road to execute an arrest warrant for an individual. During the operation, deputies encountered Francisco Garcia Vega, 53, who was the brother of the wanted individual. According to the sheriff’s office, Vega struck a deputy in the head with a 2×4 piece of lumber, causing a serious laceration. As Vega raised the lumber again in a threatening manner, deputies opened fire, striking and killing him at the scene.

On 06/10/2025 around 8:30 p.m., Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve a court order for a mental health evaluation (commonly known as a Baker Act) at a home on Rose Avenue in Dade City, Florida. According to law enforcement, Cristian Javier Estrada Perez did not respond to initial attempts at communication. Deputies then threatened to deploy pepper balls to gain compliance. When deputies opened the door, Estrada Perez allegedly fired four shots with a gun strapped to his hand. In response, two deputies opened fire, striking and killing him. Estrada Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.

On 04/25/2025, 64-year-old Richard Harvey Daugherty was fatally shot by law enforcement during a standoff in Okeechobee County, Florida. Deputies had been conducting surveillance and approached him as he entered his vehicle. During the encounter, the man reportedly pointed a firearm at deputies, and they opened fire, killing him. A weapon was recovered from the scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an independent investigation.

At approximately 10:45 a.m. on April 5, 2025, Boynton Beach Police responded to a domestic dispute near the 600 block of Northeast 20th Lane. Officers encountered a man involved in the dispute at Intracoastal Park, armed with a reported machete. During the encounter, officers opened fire and struck the man. He was transported to a local hospital by fire rescue and later died. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.

Around 2:00 p.m., Deputy Will May responded to a disturbance call at the Dollar General on Highway 90 in Mossy Head. He made contact with a man inside the store. As they exited, the man pulled a gun and shot the deputy multiple times. Deputy May opened fire and killed him. The man was pronounced dead on scene. Deputy May was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center and died at 7:10 p.m.

At approximately 10:48 a.m., Tallahassee Police responded to reports of an armed man experiencing a mental health crisis at a residence in the 1300 block of Raa Avenue. Family members were outside the home, and the man reportedly fired a shot behind the house. Police surrounded the area, evacuated nearby residents, and rerouted traffic on Old Bainbridge Road. Officers found the man in the backyard. The man shot and killed himself in front of police.

Samuel Vaia, 33, was accused of shooting and killing his ex-wife, Ashley Vaia, inside her Deltona home. Deputies responded to the Parma Drive residence after Ashley’s child called 911 around 2:23 a.m. Vaia fled in a white SUV, and law enforcement tracked his vehicle northbound on Interstate 95 at over 100 mph. Flagler County deputies joined the chase, which ended when Vaia crashed at Palm Harbor Parkway and Hammock Dunes Parkway in Palm Coast. Deputies approached and found him with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a hospital where he died. Vaia had been arrested on 03/23/2025 for battering Ashley but was released on bond the following day.

On March 26, 2025, Broward Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment in the 3100 block of Hallandale Beach Boulevard. Inside, they found four victims killed by gunfire: Julie Cruz, 32; her 11-year-old son Xion Solomon; and 2-year-old twin sons Nova and Emery McKenzie. Her 8-year-old daughter Phiinyx Solomon was found wounded and hospitalized in critical condition. The shooter, identified as Stephen McKenzie, 34, was the estranged partner of Cruz and father of the twins. He was found at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and died five days later on March 31. Family members said Cruz had tried to leave the relationship and had recently moved into the apartment.

On March 29, 2025, at approximately 7 a.m., a Stuart Police Department officer responded to a report of a man acting erratically and armed with a knife at the Sierra Condominiums. Upon arrival, the officer encountered 36-year-old Kenneth Christopher Cook, who was reportedly stalking a woman with the knife. After a brief interaction, Cook retreated into his residence and emerged with a larger knife, approximately eight or nine inches in length, and charged at the officer. The officer opened fire, discharging four rounds and striking Cook twice. Cook was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Martin County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the incident.

On March 21, 2025, a Fort Myers Police officer attempted a traffic stop on a 2013 Kia Forte. The driver did not stop and struck the officer before continuing northbound on Central Avenue. Officers escalated a chase. The driver failed to navigate a curve and crashed into a building at 2055 Central Avenue. She was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The officer who was struck sustained injuries and was reported in stable condition. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.

On 03/19/2025, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper observed a vehicle committing multiple moving violations on the Florida Turnpike. When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, the driver did not stop. Police escalated a chase that continued until the vehicle entered I-595, exited at University Drive, and continued driving erratically, including traveling in the wrong direction and running multiple red lights. The vehicle sideswiped two cars and then T-boned a third near Marcano Boulevard. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Several individuals from the other vehicles were transported to a hospital in stable condition. The deceased driver's identity has not been released.

On March 15, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a Miami Police Department cruiser was involved in a traffic collision at the intersection of Northwest 7th Street and 47th Avenue. The officer’s vehicle was traveling eastbound on 7th Street when it collided with a Toyota sedan making a left turn onto 47th Avenue. The impact caused the police cruiser to veer onto the sidewalk, striking two pedestrians at a bus stop.

Michelle Veronica Salmeron Membreno, 23, was critically injured and transported to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she died. A second pedestrian was hospitalized in stable condition with leg injuries. The officer involved was also transported to the hospital and later released.

The Miami Police Department's traffic homicide unit is investigating to determine whether the officer's emergency lights were activated and the speed of the vehicles involved.

On 03/12/2025, at approximately 9 a.m., Officer A.C. Gaulding of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Trout River Boulevard and Ribault Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida. A male driver pulled into a driveway and attempted to exit his vehicle. Despite Officer Gaulding's command to remain inside, he leaned out and began firing at the officer, striking him in the foot. Officer Gaulding opened fire, hitting him multiple times. He was found wearing a bulletproof vest, and multiple firearms were recovered from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

On 03/04/2025, Jessie Kirk, 72, was reported missing after failing to show up for her routine morning walk in Titusville, Florida. A friend reported her missing, and Titusville Police began searching for her. Officers found David Armstrong Barber, 35, a former Brevard County corrections deputy, near Kirk’s condominium. He exhibited suspicious behavior and had recent burn injuries. Later that day, Kirk's vehicle was found burned near State Road 50 and State Road 520 in Orange County. Kirk’s burned body was discovered near the Haulover Canal in north Brevard County. Barber was arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder, arson, burglary of an occupied structure, abuse of a dead human body, theft, and tampering with evidence.
