Kansas City Kansas PD state that an altercation between John Anderton and the officer took place. The officer was seen wearing a BWC but Anderton’s brother states footage was withheld. “Everyone I talked to at that house said my brother was trying to give that [overdosed] man CPR. Once the ambulance and help got there, he left. I have videos of my brother riding his bicycle, not fleeing, riding away,” he (brother) said.
Police state he left his home on his bike. His brother disputes this and feels that a neighbor’s security cam shows a different man on a bicycle. The family wants answers and has retained a lawyer. No officers were charged.

Kennedy J. Edmond was allegedly driving down the street in Wichita when police saw him and felt that he matched a description of someone from a larceny in the area. They began following him, escalating a chase ending in a fatal crash in which Edmond crashed and rolled over at Osie and Washington around 8:30 a.m. January 26, 2023.
While the officer alleged that he had “called off the pursuit” just before the crash, the KHP did report that this incident was listed as a police pursuit at the time of the crash. The KHP ultimately changed its narrative to “not in pursuit”.
The officer had reportedly chased the car at a high rate of speed without lights and sirens most of the way and turned on his lights and sirens toward the end of the pursuit. He also called off the pursuit after about 15 seconds when the vehicle started driving at high speed.’No officers were charged.

Around 9 a.m., officers with the Clark Co. Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle, however, the vehicle sped away and police initiated a chase. KBI indicated the chase headed north toward Dodge City when deputies from the Ford Co. Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol joined the chase. The vehicle came to a stop near Highway 50 and 113 Rd. in Dodge City and gunfire was exchanged between the occupants and law enforcement. Two deputies from the Ford Co. Sheriff’s Office were shot in the incident. A deputy from the Clark Co. Sheriff’s Office was alsoinjured. A trooper with KHP was bitten by a K-9. Leroy Malone was fatally shot. A female in the vehicle was also shot, was in critical condition and had also been taken to a hospital. No officers were charged.

Harley Bagby was “tearing the house up,” Bagby’s girlfriend told Wellington PD. Police allege that they walked into the home and Bagby approached with a knife and that officers shot and killed him with multiple shots. No officers were charged.

Cheyenne Day was allegedly driving erratically for which Topeka PD began chasing her. The driving reportedly became much worse under duress and caused her to crash her car on the 2300 block of N.W. Topeka Boulevard. She died. No officers were charged.

Just after 5:00 pm on Monday, Jan. 16, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office received calls of a man pointing a gun. Deputies found the man driving a truck, chased him and he fled into a field and allegedly started firing on police, then fled on foot. He was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head under police duress.No officers were charged.

Olathe PD allege that they arrived to a physical disturbance, found a man with an “edged weapon” and shot and killed Brandon Lynch. Kansas City KS PD responded to a call about a disabled vehicle and found a man pointing a weapon. Thomas Marshall allegedly stole the officer’s cruiser, was hunted by an unknown number of cruisers, stopped the cruiser and when he exited, he was involved in a shootout with officers and was killed.

On 12/20/2022, Baxter Springs police responded to a reported domestic disturbance on Military Avenue. Officers encountered Joseph Gunsolus outside the residence. According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Gunsolus had a gun and during the confrontation officers opened fire. He died from gunshot wounds. The KBI conducted the investigation and later stated the shooting was justified under Kansas law.

Topeka PD arrived at a domestic incident. Taylor Lowery reportedly left the residence and drove to an area store with police in pursuit. Police claim he tried to carjack a woman with a knife. Police claim he walked toward them and five officers fired their weapons killing him.

Topeka PD responded to a home in the 3500 block of SW Kerry Avenue on reports of a shooting. Police arrived and found 1 person dead and another who was injured. Several units at the murder scene abruptly left around 10:45 a.m. to chase the person felt responsible for the homicide. Scanner traffic indicated a high-speed chase and possible shootout with the likely shooters. Police chased them into Downtown Topeka. Police allege shots were fired from the fleeing vehicle. The vehicle crashed. Police state they were once again fired at from the wreck, injuring an officer. A large group of officers with guns drawn approached the vehicle and pulled someone out. One person is confirmed dead. Circumstances were not made clear and identity was not revealed by police.

On 09/14/2022, Lenexa police responded around 7:45 a.m. to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near W. 79th Street and Barton Street in a business park area. Officers approached a man inside the vehicle. During contact, he had a firearm and refused commands. Police established a perimeter and requested tactical units and negotiators. The standoff lasted approximately three hours. At approximately 10:30 a.m., officers entered the vehicle and found the man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased. A dog that had been inside the vehicle was removed unharmed. Authorities did not release the man’s name or age in initial reporting.

On 02/26/2022, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Derek Stortzum for a traffic violation. Stortzum continued driving, and troopers escalated a multi-county pursuit.
During the pursuit on U.S. Highway 283 near Norton, a trooper conducted a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver. Stortzum’s vehicle left the roadway and crashed. He sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
The Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the collision. Authorities have not released the name of the trooper involved in the maneuver. Public reporting stated the pursuit began over a traffic-related infraction and extended across multiple counties before ending near Norton.

Upon arrival, officers observed Lionel Womack, a 35-year-old former detective for the Kansas City Police Department, running toward them.

At about 11 p.m., Montgomery County deputies chased Justin Frostad, who was traveling eastbound on County Road 3875 in a 2007 Kia Optima. Police never disclosed the reason for the pursuit. Frostad lost control of his vehicle after crossing the railroad tracks, veered off the road, and flipped several times. On October 25, 2021, a 78-year-old man contacted Mitchell County dispatch to report that he had been kidnapped at gunpoint and held for 26 hours by an acquaintance, John Roudybush, 59. When officers attempted to serve a search warrant at Roudybush's home located at 2446 190 Road in Glen Elder, Kansas, he refused to exit the residence. After an hours-long standoff, officers heard a gunshot from inside the home. Upon entry, they found Roudybush deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Around 2 a.m., a clerk working at the QuikTrip called 911 to report a suicidal person. The clerk said a woman was at the convenience store and reported that her boyfriend, Jess Jackson, had threatened her, made suicidal statements, and possibly fired a gun in a home. The woman was no longer at QuikTrip when officers arrived. Officers proceeded to the home where Jackson was staying. A man at the residence allowed officers inside. Officers found Jackson in bed and ordered him to get out of bed and show his hands. Jackson ignored the commands and reached toward the floor. One officer then fired four shots, killing Jackson.

On 09/25/2021, Wichita police pursued a vehicle near Interstate 135 and East Harry Street. During the pursuit the fleeing vehicle collided with another vehicle occupied by an adult woman. She sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Reporting described the incident as occurring during an active police pursuit; authorities released limited identifying information about the deceased. About 7:30 p.m., police received reports of a person looking into vehicle windows. An officer responded to the area where he found Brandon Lee Schlichting. When the officer tried to contact Schlichting, Schlichting allegedly pulled a gun and aimed it at the officer, who shot and killed him.

Wichita police said officers received information that Gabriel Christian Seim was involved in past drug trafficking incidents, and he was driving a Toyota RAV4. Officers found him traveling on northbound Interstate 135, and they attempted to stop him. The RAV4 exited on 53rd Street North, heading eastbound, where it crashed into a GMC. Seim was killed in the crash. The 43-year-old man inside the GMC was injured.
