Byram police reportedly came upon a stolen Honda Accord and while attempting to make a traffic stop, the driver did not stop and continued down Siwell Road on Lee Street which is where the man “basically T-boned and broad-sided a silver Chevrolet Silverado.” Wigley died.

Jonathan Sanchez was pulled over for speeding when police discovered he was wanted out of Florida for kidnapping. He pulled a gun and took 3 children and a family member managed to get one of three children out of the car before Sanchez drove off. Police chase him at high speed and despite the fact that there were known to be two children in the car, police placed spike strips until the vehicle crashed. The man exited the vehicle with a gun and committed suicide under police duress in front of his children.

Cadillac Police officers traffic-stopped a vehicle driving without headlights early Saturday on South Mitchel Street. Two men in the vehicle admitted to alcohol use including the driver. The driver left the scene. Police escalated a chase until the vehicle crashed into a wall, a parked car and tree with both men running away. Drugs, guns and cash were found. The passenger was not located but the injured driver was taken to the hospital where he died of what police allege may have been drugs ingested during the arrest.

Upon arrival, they found Robert Rigby Rushton stuck in mud inside his vehicle. As Rushton exited the vehicle, he was observed holding a knife in each hand. Despite commands from deputies to drop the knives, Rushton advanced towards them, resulting in the deputies discharging their firearms, fatally shooting him.

On September 23, 2021, a deputy from the Tate County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop Keith Cole, who was wanted on a domestic violence warrant, on Highway 4. Cole pulled over, exited his vehicle, and fled into the woods. The deputy pursued and found Cole hiding behind a tree. On August 11, 2021, at approximately 5:24 a.m., a Pearl Police officer attempted to stop a 2005 tan Lincoln Town Car for speeding on Pearson Road near Old Whitfield Road. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Akeem Jihad Carson of Canton, Mississippi, did not stop. Police escalated a chase that lasted until Carson lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wooded area near Monterey Road. Emergency responders extricated Carson from the vehicle, and he was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

On July 26, 2021, around 8 p.m., Rankin County deputies responded to a call regarding burglary and vandalism. They spotted Damien Montrell Cameron exiting the woods. Police escalated a chase, apprehended Cameron. Police allege that he resisted. Police handcuffed him and placed him in the back of a police cruiser and when they returned an unspecified length of time later, they claim to have found him dead in handcuffs in the cruiser. This official police narrative is not collaborated by any bodycam or other evidence. While police omitted mention of injuries, photos submitted by his mother of him comatose in the hospital after the police assault shows significant injuries to his head and face. In addition, the sheriff’s office admitted that deputies handcuffed and locked him in a cruiser for an unspecified length of time prior to finding him dead in the vehicle. Temperatures were recorded at 98 degrees Fahrenheit in Braxton, MS on the day he was found dead in the locked cruiser. It is unknown whether and what types of injuries he may have had during arrest when police obliquely stated he had “resisted” and was overpowered by an unknown number of deputies. His mother is very outspoken and states that he was murdered by police.

Of note, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office responsible for this fatal arrest has been under DOJ supervision as the “Goon Squad” of a number of severely racist officers terrorized and killed black residents. It is unknown whether the death of Damien Montrell Cameron was ever examined by the DOJ.

At approximately 5 a.m. on June 23, 2021, a deputy encountered Robert Alan Blackburn, who was allegedly armed with a knife on County Road 742 in Corinth, Mississippi. The deputy attempted to disarm Blackburn using a Taser and pepper spray. Blackburn fled into the woods and returned approximately 30 minutes later. Police fired a taser at him twice and allege that after the second taser firing, he allegedly lunged at them with a knife. They shot and killed him.

On June 12, 2021, at around 11:30 a.m., deputies from the Itawamba County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Dorsey Evergreen Road where Chris Moore allegedly pointed a gun at a deputy before retreating inside. Moore had reportedly been dropped off at the residence and then allegedly shot and killed Gage Ison. With approximately eight people inside, including children, a standoff ensued. One child escaped and sought help. The sheriff's office managed to evacuate the others through a window while Moore remained inside. Police fired CS gas canisters and continued to mount pressure.
