On May 6, 2025, 24-year-old Blake Hutchinson died by suicide during a police encounter in Mount Vernon, Ohio.Hutchinson was wanted on charges of murder and child endangerment in connection with the death of 6-year-old Eva Bretz in Columbus. When approached by Knox County SWAT personnel on the Heart of Ohio Trail, Hutchinson produced a firearm from his jacket pocket and took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. On May 1, 2025, Cincinnati police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on Warsaw Avenue in East Price Hill. Officers approached four individuals inside the vehicle, who fled on foot. During the pursuit, 18-year-old Ryan Hinton allegedly pointed a handgun at an officer. The officer opened fire, killing him. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered but had not been fired. Body camera footage recorded the encounter showed that he was shot in his back several times while fleeing and he was not seen with a gun before or when he was killed. His father viewed the bodycam footage the next morning and drove a car into a police vehicle, killing an unrelated officer from the same PD and was arrested. The officer died.

On April 17, 2025, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Medina County Sheriff's deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on I-71 in Harrisville Township for an equipment violation. The driver, 31-year-old Chris Nerantzoulis, drobve away. Medina County deputies escalated a high-speed pursuit into Cuyahoga County. Strongsville Police deployed tire deflation devices, disabling the vehicle. Nerantzoulis exited the car, fled on foot, and fired several shots before fatally shooting himself. Deputies did not discharge their weapons during the incident. Nerantzoulis was under investigation by the Marion County Sheriff's Office for two armed robberies, including one that occurred the previous evening.

On March 28, 2025, around 9:45 p.m., Cuyahoga County Sheriff's deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for erratic driving on East 9th Street in Cleveland. The driver, 24-year-old Nigel Wayne Perry, did not stop. Deputies escalated a pursuit onto Interstate 90. At the Eddy Road exit, Perry’s vehicle collided with a second vehicle. The impact caused the second car to fall off the bridge and catch fire. Perry's vehicle also caught fire, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the other vehicle was ejected and transported to University Hospital. The case is under investigation.

On March 23, 2025, Christian Black was arrested by Englewood police after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle on Interstate 70, following a robbery in Beavercreek. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail around 6 a.m. On March 24, at approximately 1:50 a.m., jail staff found Black unresponsive in his cell. Upon opening the cell door, Black reportedly leapt up and engaged in a physical altercation with multiple corrections officers and deputies. Staff used a Taser to subdue him, after which he was treated by medical staff and placed in a cell for monitoring. Later that morning, Black allegedly began striking his head against his cell door. Staff intervened, leading to another struggle where pepper spray and a Taser were used before restraining him in a chair. While awaiting medical transport, Black's condition deteriorated, and he went into cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at the hospital on March 26. The Dayton Police Department and the Montgomery County Coroner's Office are investigating the incident. Black's family has expressed concerns regarding the circumstances of his death and is conducting their own investigation.

The vehicle was later found crashed near Glendale Milford Road and Evendale Drive, and the occupants had run. While searching, a Lockland police officer encountered a Black man walking along northbound I-75 near mile marker 14. The officer reported the man had something in his hands and alleged he was noncompliant. Police fired a Taser, but it was ineffective. Officers opened fire, shooting him in the chest. He was pronounced dead on the side of the freeway. So far, police have not publicly identified the object in his hand.

On 03/06/2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers attempted to stop a driver on Interstate 71 near milepost 175 for alleged reckless driving. The driver, identified as Jared Shaw, 33, of Mount Vernon, did not stop. Troopers escalated a chase through Ashland County. Shaw exited onto U.S. 250 toward Ashland, continued on Ohio 60 South into Loudonville, and was chased by troopers until he lost control at the intersection of Ohio 3 and Ohio 60. His vehicle struck a utility pole. Shaw was pronounced dead at the crash site.

On 03/04/2025, police began searching for 23-year-old Shamar Summerall after he was identified as the shooter in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Mariah Sanders outside the 444 Park Apartments in Richmond Heights, Ohio. Witnesses reported that Summerall followed Sanders before shooting her multiple times. A baby was found unharmed near Sanders.
After an extensive search by multiple law enforcement agencies, including U.S. Marshals, Summerall was located early the next morning at Mayfield Heights City Park. As officers approached, he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On 12/31/2024, Mercer County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at a gas station in Celina, Ohio. Moses Alik, 22, who reportedly had a knife, charged at the deputy with the weapon. Deputy Spencer Heinl fired a Taser, then opened fire, killing Alik. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Deputy Heinl was previously been involved in a call during which the target died from suicide during the encounter in July of 2020.

Upon arrival, officers announced their presence, and the door was opened by a male individual, later identified as 50-year-old Christopher Gorak, who was armed with a gun. An officer discharged their firearm, striking Gorak. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting an investigation into the incident.

On December 20, 2024, the U.S. Marshals Service's Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), in collaboration with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, attempted to serve a warrant for felonious assault at an apartment complex on Bellcreek Lane in Trotwood, Ohio. Upon arrival, the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Leo Lucas, fired at the officers, striking one in the leg. The injured officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A standoff ensued, during which law enforcement deployed concussion grenades and distraction devices. After several hours, Lucas was found deceased inside the apartment from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers discharged their weapons during the incident. On December 19, 2024, U.S. Marshals located 28-year-old William Abney, a suspect in the December 17, 2024, murder of Nicholas R. Mizikar, at a residence in the 2600 block of Saratoga Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. As officers approached, Abney produced a firearm and shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Abney was wanted in connection with the shooting death of Mizikar, who was found with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle in the driveway of a home on Saratoga Avenue.

On 12/19/2024, Gahanna Division of Police officers responded to a call regarding fraudulent credit card use at the Springhill Suites hotel in Gahanna, Ohio. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male individual who exited the hotel through a back window. The individual was armed with a handgun and refused to comply with multiple commands to drop the weapon. The individual placed the gun to his own head and then pointed it at officers. In response, four officers fired their weapons, fatally striking the individual. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.

On 12/16/2024, Liberty Township police officers responded to a Flock License Plate Reader alert indicating a stolen SUV entering their jurisdiction. Officers located the vehicle parked at the Belmont Plaza Shopping Center with Jason Cain, 31, in the driver’s seat. Police blocked the vehicle in with police cars. Cain responded by trying to drive away, hitting a police car in the process. An officer opened fire, killing Cain. After being shot, the SUV with Cain accelerated and crashed into the front wall of the Harbor Freight store where it stopped. A female passenger was removed by police. Cain was transported to Saint Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in critical condition, where he died on 12/19/2024. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.
