On March 23, 2025, Christian Black was arrested by Englewood police after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle on Interstate 70, following a robbery in Beavercreek. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail around 6 a.m. On March 24, at approximately 1:50 a.m., jail staff found Black unresponsive in his cell. Upon opening the cell door, Black reportedly leapt up and engaged in a physical altercation with multiple corrections officers and deputies. Staff used a Taser to subdue him, after which he was treated by medical staff and placed in a cell for monitoring. Later that morning, Black allegedly began striking his head against his cell door. Staff intervened, leading to another struggle where pepper spray and a Taser were used before restraining him in a chair. While awaiting medical transport, Black's condition deteriorated, and he went into cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at the hospital on March 26. The Dayton Police Department and the Montgomery County Coroner's Office are investigating the incident. Black's family has expressed concerns regarding the circumstances of his death and is conducting their own investigation.

While searching, a Lockland police officer encountered a Black man walking along northbound I-75 near mile marker 14. The officer reported the man had something in his hands and alleged he was noncompliant. Police fired a Taser, but it was ineffective. Officers opened fire, shooting him in the chest. He was pronounced dead on the side of the freeway. So far, police have not publicly identified the object in his hand.

Moments later, Ware exited the apartment using another man as a human shield. The hostage broke free, after which Ware pointed his weapon at officers. Police opened fire and killed him. On 03/06/2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers attempted to stop a driver on Interstate 71 near milepost 175 for alleged reckless driving. The driver, identified as Jared Shaw, 33, of Mount Vernon, did not stop. Troopers escalated a chase through Ashland County. Shaw exited onto U.S. 250 toward Ashland, continued on Ohio 60 South into Loudonville, and was chased by troopers until he lost control at the intersection of Ohio 3 and Ohio 60. His vehicle struck a utility pole. Shaw was pronounced dead at the crash site.

On 03/04/2025, police began searching for 23-year-old Shamar Summerall after he was identified as the shooter in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Mariah Sanders outside the 444 Park Apartments in Richmond Heights, Ohio. Witnesses reported that Summerall followed Sanders before shooting her multiple times. A baby was found unharmed near Sanders.

Officers located the vehicle parked at the Belmont Plaza Shopping Center with Jason Cain, 31, in the driver’s seat. Police blocked the vehicle in with police cars. Cain responded by trying to drive away, hitting a police car in the process. An officer opened fire, killing Cain. After being shot, the SUV with Cain accelerated and crashed into the front wall of the Harbor Freight store where it stopped. A female passenger was removed by police. On December 7, 2024, at approximately 11:18 p.m., Shelby Police Department Sergeant Noah Kocher and Officer Dominic Ewing arrived at the Arby's restaurant located at 234 Mansfield Avenue in Shelby, Ohio, to serve an arrest warrant on 31-year-old Tyler S. Jacobs. Upon making contact, Jacobs stabbed Sgt. Kocher in the neck with a knife. Despite his injury, Sgt. Kocher managed to distance himself from Jacobs and then shot him. Officer Ewing, positioned at the back entrance, immediately entered the restaurant and provided medical assistance to both Sgt. Kocher and Jacobs. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital, where Jacobs was pronounced deceased. Sgt. Kocher was treated and later released in stable condition.

On 11/22/2024, Lucas County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call at 1800 North McCord Road in Toledo. Deputies arrested 58-year-old Rashid Mustafa without incident. While being transported to the Lucas County Corrections Center, Mustafa became unresponsive in the sallyport area before booking. Deputies administered two doses of Narcan, but Mustafa did not respond. Mustafa was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Lucas County Coroner's Office is investigating to determine the cause and manner of death.

On November 18, 2024, James J. Vanest, 68, was fatally shot by police officers during an attempt to arrest him at the Rodeway Inn in Jackson Township, Ohio. Vanest, wanted in West Virginia for federal weapons violations, had a violent criminal history dating back to the 1970s. When authorities tracked him to the motel, he barricaded himself in a room and brandished a firearm. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, along with the Canton Police and SWAT, attempted to negotiate his surrender but were met with gunfire from Vanest, who shot at officers through windows and walls. A North Canton police officer, serving on the SWAT team, was wounded in the arm during the exchange, requiring surgery. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding Vanest. The situation led to the temporary closure of a section of Interstate 77. Two firearms and spent bullet casings were found at the scene.

New Philadelphia PD were sent to a call about a man in his home who was suicidal and in mental health crisis. Police arrived with SRT and escalated a standoff. The man eventually died from suicide.

A noncustodial man at the center of an Amber Alert, who had reportedly taken his daughter on her birthday, was shot and killed by police when he was located. His 7-year-old daughter survived.

On November 12, 2024, David Brown, a 52-year-old detainee at Summit County Jail, began experiencing health problems around 5:40 a.m. Brown was transported by ambulance to Summa Health's Akron Campus, where he was pronounced dead from an undisclosed medical condition. He had been held at the facility since August on misdemeanor charges of assault, disorderly conduct, and contempt of court.

Findlay police arrived at Bernard Park for a group of teenagers allegedly drinking alcohol. The teens fled and police alleged that one fired shot at them. They fired back and killed Kalvin Darapheth.

Matthew James Fries was at the Portage County Hike and Bike Trail and had allegedly injured someone with a knife. Police arrived, saw him with an ax, and shot and killed him. He had been an unhoused man living in a nearby encampment.
