On July 31, 2021, at approximately 4:08 a.m., Celina Police officers observed a blue 2004 Acura run a stop sign. Officers pursued the vehicle after it was observed swerving on the roadway.

The driver, later identified as 33-year-old Chad R. Rammel, did not stop as officers activated their lights and sirens. Police escalated a chase to speeds exceeding 95 mph. police alleged that they “called the chase” apparently moments before a crash was reported on a deserted narrow country Road just passed four in the morning we’re all allegedly Rammel died in a single vehicle crash. Chad Rammell, the driver, and so occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead. The incident is under investigation by the Ohio State Patrol.

A short time later, Mercer County Central Dispatch received a report of a crash on Mud Pike Road. Responders from the Ohio Highway Patrol and Mercer County Sheriff's Office discovered the crashed Acura. Rammel, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the crash site.

On February 5, 2021, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Trotwood Police officers responded to a theft report at the Speedway convenience store located at 5000 Olive Road where Andrew Hogan, 25, had allegedly stolen a 2-liter non-alcoholic beverage and was observed walking towards a nearby apartment complex.

Officers located Hogan near the Kensington apartment complex, where he reportedly refused commands. Police engaged him in an altercation, deployed a Taser, pepper spray, and a baton, but Hogan ran into an apartment in the 700 block of Kelford Place.

While officers awaited additional units, Hogan emerged from the apartment with a knife and allegedly lunged at Officer Michael Molchan Jr., who then opened fire, fatally wounding Hogan.
