Just after 12:30 a.m., officers responded to an armed robbery on Northeast 82nd Avenue where police say Michael A. Story, 53, of Portland had taken a woman hostage and fled with her. Dispatch later received a call from the woman. She said she had escaped and was taken to a hospital for evaluation and had been sexually assaulted.
The vehicle was again seen near Northeast Marine Drive and Northeast Blue Lake Road and police tried to stop it. Police escalated a chase that ended near NE 141st Avenue and NE Sandy Boulevard after police used spike strips to deflate the car’s tires. Story ran away while allegedly firing shots at the officers. While securing the area, officers reported hearing more gunshots going off. A multi-agency team assisted with the search and a member of the air support unit said they found a heat source in a parking lot that appeared to be a person lying down. A drone was sent and discovered Story injured on the ground. He died of suicide under police duress.

The Roseburg Senior Center was being used as the Roseburg Warming Center for the night and several individuals had been stabbed by a man who was utilizing the warming center on Southeast Stephens Street.
Roseburg PD responded and the situation escalated. Police admit to firing “nonlethal weapons” believed to be beanbags and finally shooting the man to death. The involved officers were Jerry De Lu Fuente, Brayden Wimberly, Paxton Shinn, Kyle Fields, Cameron Derrick and Ryan Dingman. The shooting was ruled Justified by DA and Grand Jury.

Officers were called for a welfare check on a suicidal man at 6000 Three Lakes Rd SE in southwest Albany. They found him sitting in his car swinging a pistol over his head. Family members were talking to him but were forcibly removed by police which caused the man, Julius Hamilton, to allegedly briefly point the pistol briefly at police. Officers Eric Tress and Ken Fandrem fired an unknown number of bullets. The man was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The officers were all cleared by the DA.

Grants Pass PD received "credible information" that Foster had entered the home where a woman was found unconscious, bound and near death on Jan. 24. The woman washospitalized in critical condition.
A task force consisting of Grants Pass PD and SWAT gathered at the home. Some area residents received a notification to shelter in place. Police created a standoff in Grants Pass, Ore., on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023 lasting into the next day Benjamin Obadiah Foster who was barricaded underneath the home. On the second day of standoff, police forcibly entered and found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He died in the hospital.
