Event : Killed by police following ShotSpotter alert
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Pittsburgh Police received a ShotSpotter alert that gunshots were heard and arrived in the 1900 block of Huron Street. Police heard a noisy argument and claim there were shots heard. Police shot and killed Austyn Cousins. When asked by media whether Cousins had actually fired any shots, police replied that they did not know. It is completely unclear why this young software engineer was killed in the dark night at 1:49 a.m. other than a police surveillance system sending police to the street and firing shots. From the time, the ShotSpotter alert was reported in the police station until the radio call that Cousins had been shot by police, only 11 minutes elapsed. Eyewitnesses and BWC footage are critically needed in this case.

A man in his 70s crashed his vehicle against a curb. A patrol officer thought he heard gunshots and called SWAT, blocking the man’s vehicle in. SWAT arrived and a shootout ensued. The man was shot and killed. Police claim to have found a pistol in the car but are not willing to confirm the man fired any shots after initially claiming that the entire ordeal was initiated because an officer thought he had heard shots fired.
