Authorities confirmed this was not related to criminal activity, but no specific reasons for enforcing the dangerous "wellness check" were provided. Garner was critically injured and taken to McLeod Regional Medical Center where he died. The condition of the 18-wheeler driver remains unknown. Florence Police state that Matthew Berry was wanted for a prior homicide and was located in an apartment in the 1300 block of Brittany Drive. Both city and county police arrived to arrest him, claim that he fired at them and they shot and killed him during arrest.
