On 09/29/2021, law enforcement from multiple agencies searched for 27-year-old James Michael Farris in connection with a homicide investigation. Officers located Farris near the 7300 block of Shady Vail Lane in Chattanooga. When officers attempted to take him into custody, the encounter escalated and officers opened fire, striking Farris. He was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Katelyn L. Harris, a 29-year-old White female, was shot and killed by deputies with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office on August 15, 2021, in Chuckey, Tennessee. Deputies recognized Harris, who reportedly had outstanding felony warrants, driving on John B. Dennis Highway and attempted a traffic stop. DOn 08/11/2021 around 5:00 a.m., a Metropolitan Nashville Police officer checked businesses in the 5500 block of Charlotte Pike and contacted Daniel Turney Crowley, 31, inside a parked Toyota 4Runner outside a Cricket store. Police said Crowley was holding a knife and did not comply with repeated commands to put it down while backup arrived. Police said Crowley got out of the vehicle and ran toward the officers while still holding the knife. Police said three officers opened fire and shot Crowley. Police transported him to a hospital where he died. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation opened an external investigation. WPLN reported MNPD released edited body camera footage and published photos of a pocketknife police said Crowley was holding.

Around 10:34 p.m. on August 6, 2021, Clarksville Police Department officers responded to 681 Ellie Nat Drive regarding a report of a person attempting to cut another person with a knife. Upon arrival, officers found a victim who had sustained injuries from a knife. The man entered the residence, allegedly to retrieve a firearm, leading to a standoff lasting nearly 12 hours. At approximately 9:41 a.m., the individual was found deceased inside the residence from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Antonio D. David Wade Gaither, a 49-year-old White male, died by suicide during a domestic disturbance incident on July 24, 2021, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Officers from the Murfreesboro Police Department responded to a call around 10:40 p.m. about a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Gaither’s wife reported he had been acting belligerent and punching holes in the walls and doors. As officers entered the residence, Gaither exited a bedroom, pointed a handgun at one of the officers, and reportedly pulled the trigger, but the pistol malfunctioned. Gaither then followed officers outside, firing two more shots at them in the front yard before retreating inside. After receiving no response, officers entered the home and found Gaither deceased in a bedroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Markell J. Nevels, a 19-year-old Black male, died by suicide on July 9, 2021, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Police responded to the Campus Crossings Apartments around 10:40 a.m. after a report of a stolen vehicle. The owner of the white Lexus told police that Nevels was looking through the glove compartment and then pointed a handgun at him before fleeing in the car. The pursuit ended in front of the Regal Inn when Nevels allegedly rammed three Murfreesboro Police Department vehicles, a Rutherford County SUV, and a citizen's car. Nevels then fatally shot himself.

Dorris "DJ" Acree, a 23-year-old Black male, died by suicide on July 8, 2021, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Around 6 a.m., officers with the Clarksville Police Department attempted to serve a narcotics search warrant at an apartment on Cobalt Drive. An hours-long standoff ensued, during which officers tried to negotiate with Acree. Following the standoff, Acree was found deceased inside the apartment from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Lisa Ann Short, a 54-year-old White female, was shot and killed by officers from the Kingsport Police Department on July 1, 2021, in Kingsport, Tennessee. On 04/24/2021, Metro Nashville police shot and killed 32 year old Marvin Veiga during a traffic stop on Clarksville Pike in the Bordeaux area of Nashville. Officer Christopher Royer initiated the stop after running a license plate check. Police stated that the driver remained in the vehicle and cooperated with the stop.
During the encounter, Veiga exited the vehicle from the passenger side while holding two butcher knives. Officer Royer backed away while issuing commands. As Veiga continued moving toward the officer while holding the knives, Royer opened fire, striking Veiga three times. Veiga died at the scene.

On April 2, 2021, deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office pursued a blue Chevrolet driven by 38-year-old Daniel Peak at speeds up to 90 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone. The chase continued onto Highway 60 near the Blythe Ferry boat ramp, where the vehicle left the roadway and plunged into the Tennessee River. The passenger, 36-year-old Dewleen Self of McCaysville, Georgia, drowned after the vehicle overturned in the water. The driver was taken into custody.

On 03/12/2021, Metro Nashville police officer Josh Baker stopped Nika Nicole Holbert while she was driving near Brick Church Pike and Ewing Drive. Baker said he recognized the vehicle in connection with another individual wanted on drug warrants, though that person was not present. During the stop, Holbert told Baker the vehicle was not hers. On 01/31/2021, Bledsoe County sheriff’s deputies went to a residence on Brockdell Road in Pikeville to serve multiple warrants on Chad William Songer, including a warrant related to a probation violation. According to authorities, during the attempt to take Songer into custody, a police dog was deployed. Police stated that Songer moved toward deputies while holding an object described as a weighted exercise ball and threw it during the encounter. Songer was mauled and fatally injured during the incident. Family members stated that the police dog caused his death. The officers were cleared.

On January 26, 2021, at approximately 7:41 a.m., a 3-year-old male child was a passenger in a 2012 Nissan Versa driven by his mother, Amanda Chatman, 24. While traveling north on South Willow Avenue in Cookeville, Tennessee, their vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a 2020 Toyota Tacoma driven by 25-year-old Michael Don Shepherd, who was fleeing from Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers. The collision occurred at the intersection of Interstate Drive and South Willow Avenue. The child died at the scene.

A 2020 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 25-year-old Michael Don Shepherd, was fleeing from Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers and ran a red light at the intersection of Interstate Drive and South Willow Avenue, striking the passenger side of Chatman's 2012 Nissan Versa. Amanda Chatman and her two sons died at the scene.
