OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

DOn 08/11/2021 around 5:00 a.m., a Metropolitan Nashville Police officer checked businesses in the 5500 block of Charlotte Pike and contacted Daniel Turney Crowley, 31, inside a parked Toyota 4Runner outside a Cricket store. Police said Crowley was holding a knife and did not comply with repeated commands to put it down while backup arrived. Police said Crowley got out of the vehicle and ran toward the officers while still holding the knife. Police said three officers opened fire and shot Crowley. Police transported him to a hospital where he died. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation opened an external investigation. WPLN reported MNPD released edited body camera footage and published photos of a pocketknife police said Crowley was holding.
