On February 13, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper attempted to stop a motorcyclist for speeding on Interstate 5 near Bow Hill. The rider, a 43-year-old male from Mount Vernon, failed to stop and exited the freeway at Bow Hill, then reentered I-5 southbound. The trooper discontinued the pursuit due to safety concerns. Later, the motorcyclist was spotted again in Mount Vernon, and another traffic stop was attempted. The rider fled, entering I-5 at College Way, traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. As the motorcyclist approached the Skagit River Bridge, he struck a part of the bridge, was ejected from the motorcycle, and was subsequently hit by an oncoming semi-truck. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The Skagit-Island Specialized Multi-Agency Response Team (SMART) is investigating the incident.

On February 13, 2025, Sumner Police responded to a domestic violence call in the 1500 block of Daffodil Street Court East. Officers safely escorted a woman from the residence before a man inside barricaded himself, reportedly armed with a firearm. The Pierce County regional SWAT team was activated, bringing armored vehicles, ballistic shields, breaching equipment, and sniper-observer units to establish a secure perimeter. Negotiators attempted to reach the man by loudspeaker and phone, while tactical operators maintained overwatch and prepared less-lethal and lethal options.
Spotlights and surveillance tools were deployed to monitor all approaches to the residence. While these contact efforts were underway, officers heard a single gunshot from inside. SWAT did not immediately enter, instead obtaining a search warrant to ensure legal entry. Once authorized, a controlled entry was executed under armed cover and tactical lighting. Inside, officers located the man deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with the firearm recovered nearby. No officers or civilians were injured, and the scene was processed for ballistic and forensic evidence.

On February 1, 2025, Lake Forest Park police chased a 16-year-old until the vehicle crashed and the driver died in Bothell, Washington. Additionally, two passengers were injured. Detectives say the car may have been involved in an eluding incident in King County with Lake Forest Park Police prior to the crash.

On January 15, 2025, Auburn Police officers conducted a traffic stop near a Chevron on A Street Southeast. During the stop, the male driver pulled out a gun and threatened a female passenger. The individual fatally shot by a Centralia Police Department officer on January 12, 2025, has been identified as Alecandro A. Castaneda, 23, of Centralia, Washington.The incident occurred around 10:56 a.m. when Officer Ruben Ramirez responded to a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in the 400 block of North Ash Street. On November 23, 2024, a Washington State Patrol trooper attempted to pull over a speeding Lexus sedan on State Route 7 in Parkland. The driver of the Lexus, a 24-year-old man from Tacoma, fled the scene and continued driving until he lost control and collided with a pickup truck. The passenger in the Lexus, a 50-year-old man from Graham, was killed at the scene. The pickup driver, a 44-year-old man from Tacoma, was seriously injured. The driver fled and police escalated a chase that ended in the Riverside neighborhood when the vehicle T-boned a teenage driver and crashed into the bushes. The teenage bystander was injured. Vancouver Police were called to the Walnut Grove Area of Vancouver, Washington, where a man had allegedly threatened a neighbor and fired shots in the air. On September 22, 2024, the Everett Police Department pursued a suspect involved in a shooting at the Park View Apartments in Everett. Officers responded to the scene around 1 p.m., where they found one deceased man and one woman with non-life-threatening injuries. By 1:40 p.m., officers located the person’s vehicle and initiated a pursuit that led onto northbound Interstate 5. The pursuit ended with a crash near milepost 190. After the crash, officers heard gunshots from the vehicle. Upon approaching the vehicle, they discovered the man deceased from a gunshot. No officers fired any shots during the incident. Investigations are ongoing by the Everett Police Department and local authorities.

Thurston police received a call that a woman had shown up at someone’s residence and demanded fentanyl. Police were called and located the woman who was allegedly driving with a flat tire in a stolen vehicle. Police chased the vehicle and placed spike strips which flattened the second tire on her right side, causing her to swerve into head on traffic where she crashed into a bystander and killed a person in that vehicle. The chase was allegedly initiated for a failed attempt to procure fentanyl and driving erratically with a flat tire. This is one of several police pursuit fatalities that have occurred since Washington’s governor Jay Insleee eviscerated a previous band on police pursuits in 2023, leading to Washington police chasing and causing fatal accidents again.

Vancouver PD arrived to Columbia Street and Columbia Way on reports that a man was letting an aggressive German shepherd loose and that the dog had bitten one person. Three 17-year-old boys walked into a Big 5 sporting goods store with an airsoft gun they needed to return for a refund because it was defective. They were approached by a 51-year-old man who had profiled them and believed they had the Airsoft gun to rob the sporting goods store with and fired a shot at the boys, killing one of them. The boys had been unarmed and made no attempt to rob anyone. The surviving teens stated that they had told him multiple times that the Airsoft was not real and the man fired on them anyway. The man who shot them is allegedly a security guard who was off duty but took it upon himself to police the store’s parking lot when he arrived to pick up a family member. He is being held on $2 million for second degree murder.
