The fleeing vehicle swerved to avoid another vehicle, lost control, and crashed into a sign at 170th Street, split in two and all three of the occupants were ejected. Two died at the scene and another was transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn in critical condition. The third victim reportedly also died in the hospital.

Greg Arrone escalated a chase of the car that ended after the car hit several other vehicles on Route 9 south in Old Bridge in the area of Spring Valley Road shortly after 2 a.m. The occupant of one of the bystander cars, 33-year-old Freehold resident Arturo Tlapa-Luna, was killed in the crash. His wife, father and two daughters were also in the car and suffered severe injuries but survived.
