On 06/29/2023, Bohdan Vetrov, a 57 year old commercial truck driver and father of seven dependent children, was killed on Interstate 5 in Lakewood, Washington, after Lakewood police initiated and continued a vehicle pursuit that ended in a catastrophic collision with his semi truck.
According to reporting, Lakewood police were pursuing a passenger vehicle connected to an alleged robbery. Officers escalated the encounter into a high speed chase that entered Interstate 5 traffic. During the pursuit, the fleeing vehicle struck Vetrov’s 18 wheeler with significant force. Vetrov was killed as a direct result of the crash.
The driver and occupants of the pursued vehicle survived. Bohdan Vetrov, who was not involved in any police action and was lawfully operating his commercial vehicle, died at the scene.

On 06/28/2023, Maricopa police responded to reports of individuals breaking into vehicles near Honeycutt Road and Hartman Road on the Gila River Indian Reservation. Seneca County Sheriff’s Office stated that a 23-year-old armed man abducted a 7-month-old baby girl. He had been in a relationship with the baby’s mother. The North Baltimore Police Chief had initially responded to a domestic dispute and said the person was homicidal and suicidal, threatening the child’s life. The baby’s mother was tracking the person’s location through her phone and passing the information on. An off-duty officer saw the vehicle and police tried to pull them over but the person led officers on a chase. He eventually accelerated at a high speed and veered off the road, hitting a house on Sandusky Street at full-speed.
Authorities surrounded the vehicle and broke the back window to get the baby out. Police say the 7-month-old was bleeding and had shallow breathing. The person was extricated from the vehicle and both were taken to an area hospital for treatment. According to Tiffin Police, the infant died from her injuries. The man is in critical condition.

Morfin was also wanted on an outstanding state Department of Corrections warrant. An Othello police officer and 3 Adams County deputies went to his work place in the 700 block of South Kulm Road, Othello, Washington, to arrest him. The officer and deputies made contact with Morfin outside the business. During the attempted arrest, Morfin unexpectedly opened fire at the group of officers. They shot and killed him.

A 2015 Dodge Avenger passenger car on State Highway 36 was being chased by Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Two vehicles were on the side of the road, a disabled car and a pedestrian attempting to connect a tow chain between the two vehicles with the pedestrian lying under the front of the Buick when the fleeing vehicle being chased by policelost control of the vehicle and crashing into the Buick and the Mercury.
The pedestrian, Daniel Jerome Schafer, was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash. It is unknown why Hamilton County deputies conducted this fatal chase.
