On February 8, 2021, Idaho Falls Police officers searched for a man who had fled a traffic stop. During the search, officers entered several backyards in the neighborhood on the 200 block of South Boulevard. Officer Elias Aurelio Cerdasencountered 58-year-old Joseph Johnson in his own backyard and shot him, mistakenly believing he was the fleeing driver. Johnson was unarmed and was not the wanted man but a local homeowner in his own backyard. The wanted man, Tanner Shoesmith, was later found hiding in a nearby shed. In August 2021, Officer Cerdas was indicted on a charge of felony involuntary manslaughter, and in February 2023, Johnson’s family filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against the Idaho Falls Police Department, alleging excessive force and civil rights violations.

On February 7, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Dallas police officers responded to reports of an active shooter at an apartment in the 9800 block of Summerwood Circle. Upon arrival, officers were fired upon, resulting in damage to a squad car's window; no officers were injured, and they did not return fire. The situation escalated into a standoff, with SWAT units deployed. At around 7 p.m., officers entered the apartment and discovered three individuals deceased from gunshot wounds: 26-year-old Marietta Julieze Matthews, her mother, 55-year-old Tamiko Geniece Merriwether, and 24-year-old Nathan Rashad James. On February 6, 2021, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Long Beach Police Department officers responded to reports of a man, later identified as 26-year-old Anthony Steven Loia, walking near Magnolia Avenue and 14th Street, pointing a handgun at people and passing vehicles. Upon arrival, officers located Loia, who matched the description provided by callers. Officers gave multiple commands for Loia to drop his firearm, which he ignored. When he refused to comply, five officers opened fire, striking Loia. Officers immediately performed CPR, but Loia was pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered near his body.

The Long Beach Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, including reviewing body-worn camera footage from the involved officers. Muse continued driving and entered a snowy lot where officers Melton, Billy Tran, Joseph Razo, and trainees Sigwart and Eric Sweeney exited their vehicles and ordered him to get out. Muse drove forward, struck multiple vehicles including a police vehicle, and drove close to officers on foot before leaving the lot. Sgt. Brandon Galloza later observed the vehicle traveling at high speed and saw it crash into a support column under I-676 near Pine Street. Muse exited the vehicle, climbed a fence, and ran onto the interstate where civilian vehicles struck and killed him. The New Jersey Attorney General conducted the required independent investigation and released body-camera footage after meeting with family members. On 02/02/2021, East Peoria police responded around 12:50 a.m. to a reported domestic violence incident elsewhere in the city in which a woman and a girl were injured. Joshua Crites left before officers arrived. Police located his vehicle a short time later in the CVS parking lot at 2540 E. Washington St. During the encounter, Crites stabbed Officer Jeffrey Bieber multiple times. Police opened fire and killed Crites at the scene. Illinois State Police took over the investigation, which was reported as ongoing at the time.

On February 2, 2021, a Polk County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation. Wayne Keith "Weezie" Smith Jr. reportedly fled when the deputy activated his emergency lights. The deputy pursued at speeds reaching 90 mph. The pursuit ended when Smith’s vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree, resulting in his death.
