OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 04/11/2021, Royce Dale Lillard III, 36, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a prolonged Scottsdale Police Department barricade at his residence near 86th Street and Highland Avenue. Police responded at approximately 5 p.m. to a domestic shooting.

Police found Lillard's wife, Molly Elizabeth Lillard, 28, suffering from gunshot wounds outside the residence. She was transported to a hospital and died. Police identified Royce Lillard as the person who allegedly shot her. Their eight-month-old child was inside the home during the incident and was not physically injured.

Lillard retreated into the residence and barricaded himself. Scottsdale police attempted for several hours to establish communication with him but received no response.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., Scottsdale SWAT personnel entered the residence and found Lillard dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police did not shoot him.

OFFICER BACKGROUND:
