On 07/20/2023, deputies responded to 10785 E Dogwood Court in Verdigris for a welfare check during a supervised visitation. Authorities reported that 39-year-old Brandy McCaslin pulled a handgun on the visitation supervisor and confined her in the garage before barricading herself inside the home with three children: 9-month-old Billy Jacobson, 11-year-old Noe McGee, and 6-year-old Brice. A standoff with law enforcement followed. During the confrontation, McCaslin shot and killed the three children and then shot herself. All four were found dead inside the residence. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation led the inquiry into the deaths.

On 07/20/2023, Austin Police Department officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Douglas Street after a 911 caller reported that a man armed with a knife was chasing a woman. Officers located the woman, who said James Woodrome had threatened her with a knife. Officers then encountered Woodrome holding a knife in a nearby courtyard.
Officers repeatedly ordered Woodrome to drop the knife. Officer John Ricker and Probationary Officer Arlene Lozano each deployed a Taser, but Woodrome continued holding the knife and advanced. According to police, Woodrome also stated that he wanted officers to shoot him. Officer Adam Reinhart fired his service weapon, striking Woodrome. Officers rendered medical aid until Austin-Travis County EMS arrived, but Woodrome was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Austin Police Department identified Officer Adam Reinhart as the officer who fired the fatal shots. Officers John Ricker and Arlene Lozano were identified as deploying Tasers. The officers were placed on administrative leave while the criminal and administrative investigations proceeded, consistent with department policy.

Conway PD said they encountered Williams during a domestic disturbance call reported at the McDonald’s on Oak Street in Conway around 11:44 a.m. where a man and woman were reported to have been fighting in a car in the parking lot. Williams exited the car and spoke to police when they arrived. They asked for his ID and he returned to the car, started rummaging through it and did not exit on command. Police pulled him from the vehicle. He started running. Officers found him behind a residence on Gum Street where he started showing signs of medical distress. He died in the hospital soon after.
Strangely, his autopsy was completed in December of 2023 and his death was ruled "accidental" while his sickle cell trait and alleged methamphetamine in his system were alleged to have contributed. This still leaves the main cause of death undisclosed trauma in police custody. Sickle cell trait is not a lethal condition, merely a trait that can exacerbate sickle cell crisis. While there was allegedly some meth in his system, it was not reported as leading cause of death. His cause of death was concealed by these findings by the coroner and remains an unknown "accident" while handcuffed in police custody.
