On 01/03/2021, officers from the Jefferson City Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance involving a man with a knife at the Wildwood Shopping Center, 3535 Missouri Boulevard, in Jefferson City. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, when officers encountered James Reising, he was reportedly agitated and holding a large knife. Officers issued verbal commands for him to drop the weapon, but Reising allegedly ignored commands and continued to pose a threat. Officers fired their weapons, striking Reising. He was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, where he was later pronounced dead. A review by the Cole County prosecutor determined the shooting was justified and no charges were filed against the officers involved.

On January 3, 2021, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Suffolk County Police officers were pursuing Malcolm Stewart, 29, who was allegedly driving a 2014 Mercedes-Benz in Medford, New York. Stewart ran a red light during the chase, causing his vehicle to collide with a 2021 Chevrolet driven by James Palumbo, 56, at the intersection of County Road 101 and Station Road. The crash resulted in Palumbo’s death.

The call stated that Tre-Kedrian Tyquan White was outside the homewith a handgun and causing a disturbance. Police escalated a chase that lasted until White crashed his vehicle, and allegedly attempted to carjack a deputy in an unmarked car. The deputy shot and killed him.

Around 2:30 a.m., Homestead Police responded to a burglary-in-progress call at a home located at 100 NE Civic Court in Homestead, Florida. Officers began blocking off the area and reportedly saw a man running away. La Garion Smith, 27, allegedly produced a firearm and shot at the Homestead officers. In response, the officers shot and killed him.

Police responded to a call at 12:20 p.m. regarding Henry Martinez Jr. allegedly holding a woman, Carlen Mercado, against her will. Martinez was reported to have a knife and was threatening to kill Mercado. Officers and deputies arrived at the trailer home and engaged in hours of unsuccessful negotiations with Martinez. Attempts to force him out of the building using flashbangs and gas were unsuccessful. Martinez allegedly pointed a knife toward police, and they opened fire, killing him. Mercado was found deceased inside, having apparently been dead for some time.
The incident is under investigation by the Oregon State Police, with findings to be reviewed by the Malheur County District Attorney's Office.

A 4-year-old boy was killed in June 2023 after D'Quinn Tyrek Butler led Florida Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase on Interstate 10. Butler refused to stop near mile marker 62 and was chased at speeds over 110 mph before crashing near mile marker 86 when his Dodge Charger crossed into westbound lanes and was hit by a semi-truck. The boy, seated in a booster seat, was pronounced dead at the scene.
