On 03/15/2024, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) were dispatched to El Tio Tono Market near Pomeroy Street and N. Eastman Avenue in Los Angeles following reports of a man harassing customers, initially with a metal stick, later updated to a report of him having a "black handgun." Deputies encountered 28-year-old Martin Sebastian outside the market. According to LASD, Sebastian pointed an alleged gun at the deputies They shot and killed him. Sebastian was struck multiple times and died at the scene. The "gun" had been a plastic replica.
