On March 15, 2024, law enforcement agencies, including the Newnan Police Department and the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office, attempted to apprehend 19-year-old Omar Maurice Rosser Jr., believed to have shot 19-year-old Bryant Elder. Upon locating Rosser, officers attempted to execute an arrest warrant. Rosser locked himself inside a residence. A SWAT team was deployed and engaged with Rosser. After an extended standoff, SWAT officers breached the residence and found Rosser deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. This incident remains under investigation by local authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding both the initial homicide and the subsequent standoff.
