OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Jeffrey Martin shot a Jacksonville deputy outside Baptist Medical Center South on Tuesday night. the off-duty officer noticed a vehicle driving through the hospital parking lot “suspiciously”and tried to stop the car, but the person drove away. Other officers responded also and escalated a chase. The man inside the car rolled the window down slightly, held out a gun, then fired one shot into a police car. Police attempted to conduct a PIT maneuver. Jeffrey Martin then crashed into a police car, another police car head on, then crashed into a pole. He fired a shot through the window, hitting the officer in the face. The bullet lodged in his chest. Five officers shot and killed him. Jeffrey Martin had no prior criminal record.
