On April 26, 2025, at approximately 5:07 p.m., deputies at the Santa Clara County Main Jail responded to a medical emergency and discovered a 56-year-old male unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and medical staff initiated CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived at 5:20 p.m. The man was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m. He had been booked into jail the previous day on several outstanding warrants, including for firearm possession by a felon, DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstructing law enforcement. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident in coordination with the District Attorney’s Office and Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office. No foul play is currently suspected.

On April 25, 2025, at approximately 1:55 p.m., Norfolk Police officers responded to a report of a disorderly person in the 800 block of East Little Creek Road. The individual, identified as 37-year-old Charlene Carey-Chavez, had reportedly been involved in an assault the previous day and had returned to the area.
Officers located Carey-Chavez in the 7600 block of Sewells Point Road. Upon contact, she produced a weapon and failed to comply with officers' commands to drop it. On 04/24/2025, Jacob Faulstich Jr., a 30-year-old White male from Marrero, Louisiana, died in a crash while fleeing from St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's deputies. Deputies made contact with Faulstich, who then drove away northbound on U.S. Highway 51 in a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. Police escalated the situation into a high-speed pursuit. As the chase approached Woodland Drive, Faulstich attempted to overtake another vehicle, causing his Camaro to collide with the front left of the other car. The impact caused Faulstich to lose control of his vehicle, which then ran off the road and struck a traffic signal pole. Faulstich, who was unrestrained at the time, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were properly restrained and uninjured. After a struggle, during which a taser was deployed without effect, the man grabbed the knife and stabbed an officer in the chest. The officer was unharmed due to his protective vest. During the altercation, another officer shot the man in the head. He was transported to UofL Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
