On 03/08/2024, officers from the Orange Police Department initiated a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle reported as stolen. The chase began in Orange and extended onto the 22 Freeway, reaching speeds over 120 mph. The vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Izaiah Joseph Miranda, entered Long Beach and ran a red light at the intersection of Seventh Street and Orange Avenue, colliding with another vehicle.

The crash resulted in the death of 15-year-old Denisse Pilego Roman, who was a passenger in the fleeing vehicle. Roman, a resident of Orangewood Children’s Home, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Miranda fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after.
