On June 24, 2024, around midnight, an officer with the Fort Worth Police Department's Directed Response Unit attempted to stop a driver for a suspected traffic violation near West Freeway and Summit Avenue. The driver fled in a pickup truck. Police escalated a chase. The driver lost control of the pickup truck, swerved after nearly striking a police vehicle, and drove over a 4-foot concrete barrier, falling 30 feet. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
