On 06/21/2024, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Tampa Police officers responded to reports of a domestic-related assault in the 4000 block of West Hillsborough Avenue. According to police, Frank E. Rodriguez, 29, was allegedly assaulting a woman in a parking lot. Officers approached Rodriguez, who they claim was uncooperative and attempted to re-enter a vehicle where the woman was located before fleeing on foot.

During the pursuit, Officer Luis Garcia deployed a Taser, but it did not stop Rodriguez. Rodriguez ran onto West Hillsborough Avenue and was struck by a dark-colored sedan that fled the scene. Rodriguez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not provided further details on the pursuit or the circumstances leading to Rodriguez’s death beyond stating their involvement in an attempted arrest.
