On 12/31/2024, Mercer County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at a gas station in Celina, Ohio. Moses Alik, 22, who reportedly had a knife, charged at the deputy with the weapon. Deputy Spencer Heinl fired a Taser, then opened fire, killing Alik. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Deputy Heinl was previously been involved in a call during which the target died from suicide during the encounter in July of 2020.

On 01/04/2025, Madison Police Department officers responded to a disturbance in the 1700 block of Packers Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin. Upon arrival, officers encountered an individual with a weapon. During the confrontation, police opened fire and killed him. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating.

On December 30, 2024, Chapel Hill police officers attempted to stop a vehicle allegedly involved in a hit-and-run crash earlier in Chapel Hill. The driver was identified as 43-year-old Lawrence Richard Edwards of Chapel Hill. Police chased the vehicle into Carrboro and escalated a high-speed chase that ended at the intersection of Oak Avenue and East Poplar Avenue, where the vehicle crashed. Edwards and his passenger, 43-year-old Jonathan Lynn Blansett of Durham, both died. Police have so far not explained why they conducted the high-speed chase.

On December 30, 2024, Lawrence Police Department officers initiated a traffic stop in the 6900 block of Pendleton Pike. A female passenger exited the vehicle, and the male driver drove away. Officers called for assistance from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and together they escalated a chase that ended in the 6500 block of East 30th Street. Officers approached the vehicle and found the man dead with a gun nearby. The female passenger cooperated with police. It is unclear at this time who shot him.
