On 07/30/2024, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to an alleged domestic altercation on Shell Point Road in New Hope, Florida. During the incident, 55-year-old Hueland Todd Brown reportedly fired shots, injuring his girlfriend's mother and a child inside a vehicle. Both victims sustained injuries but are expected to recover.

Following the shooting, Brown retreated into a residence, initiating a standoff with law enforcement that lasted approximately eight hours. During this time, deputies surrounded the area and pressured Brown to surrender. Brown died by suicide while inside the residence.
