On the morning of May 8, 2025, Trooper Nolan J. Neal of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 85 southbound near mile marker 185 for a pickup truck lacking a registration plate. The driver, later identified as 53-year-old Philip Aiken Brown of Creedmoor, provided false information during the stop. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Brown had multiple active warrants for his arrest. As Trooper Neal attempted to take Brown into custody, Brown fled the scene. The trooper escalated a chase reaching up to 85 mph. The chase concluded when Brown exited onto Red Mill Road, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into an embankment. Following the crash, Trooper Neal commanded Brown to show his hands. Brown failed to comply and eventually displayed a dark object in his hand, prompting Trooper Neal to discharge his firearm, striking Brown. Emergency medical services were called, and life-saving measures were administered; however, Brown succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is also conducting an independent review of the incident.

Nicholas Littleton, 37, was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when Wetzel County deputies attempted a traffic stop. Upon arrival, 53-year-old Duane Clayton Day, opened fire with an AR-15 rifle, targeting three unoccupied patrol vehicles. A perimeter was established, and support was provided by SWAT teams and additional agencies. A Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office helicopter later observed Day motionless on the rooftop. On May 7, 2025, around 9:00 p.m., a deputy from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a 2014 Kia Optima driven by 36-year-old Isaiah Thomas of Thibodaux, who was wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation. Thomas drove northbound on Louisiana Highway 308 at a high rate of speed. Police escalated a pursuit. The deputy allegedly called off the chase; however, Thomas attempted to pass a northbound 2024 Nissan Frontier in a marked no-passing zone and collided head-on with a southbound 2021 Honda Accord. The Kia then sideswiped the Nissan and a southbound 2023 Ford F-150. Thomas, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the crash site. All other drivers involved were properly restrained and sustained either minor injuries or were uninjured. Standard blood toxicology samples were collected from Thomas for analysis. All other drivers involved voluntarily submitted breath or blood toxicology samples for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

The vehicle was tracked with assistance from its owner. The suspect, 46-year-old Brett Osborne of Richmond, Texas, led officers on a high-speed chase through multiple jurisdictions in the greater Houston area. The pursuit concluded near the intersection of Community Reach Boulevard and Mound Road in Hockley, Harris County. When officers approached the stopped vehicle, they discovered Osborne had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No other individuals were injured during the incident.

On May 5, 2025, at approximately 3:37 a.m., deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a male refusing to leave the Sheetz convenience store in Fishersville. Upon arrival, they identified the individual as 39-year-old Stefan R. Gerencser of Staunton. After speaking with deputies, Gerencser agreed to leave the premises without incident. Gerencser was intoxicated, declined medical treatment and refused transportation to the hospital by rescue personnel. He later agreed to be transported to Augusta Health by deputies; however, upon arrival, he refused to remain at the hospital for treatment. 5:18 a.m., Gerencser was arrested for public intoxication. During the arrest, he initially refused to enter the Sheriff's Office vehicle and assaulted a deputy. A brief struggle ensued before the deputy and Augusta Health Security were able to secure him in the vehicle. At 5:45 a.m., the deputy arrived at Middle River Regional Jail. When the deputy attempted to remove Gerencser from the vehicle, he discovered that Gerencser was unresponsive and not breathing. Jail staff immediately initiated life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, they were unsuccessful. The incident has been turned over to the Virginia State Police for investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.

On May 5, 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Michigan State Police troopers assigned to the Metro Detroit Auto-Theft Recovery Team (MDART) were conducting an undercover investigation in the 20200 block of Murray Hill Street on Detroit's west side. During the operation, 23-year-old Martez Hunter Britt exited a vehicle and allegedly opened fire on the troopers, striking one officer three times, injuring him. Troopers returned fire, fatally wounding Britt. The injured trooper was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital and was reported to be in serious but stable condition.
Family members of Britt have expressed skepticism regarding the official account, questioning whether the undercover officers identified themselves as law enforcement prior to the shooting. On May 5, 2025, around 11:00 p.m., Harris County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a man sleeping in a vehicle at the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic on Cypress Woods Medical Drive. Clinic security said the man refused to leave. Deputies approached, broke a window, and deployed a Taser to extract him. After pulling him from the vehicle, they saw he was holding a large butcher knife. Two deputies opened fire and killed him. James Peterson, 50, of Ponca City, died after crashing during a police chase in Woodward. Officers attempted to stop Peterson, who was wanted on a felony warrant and had a suspended license. Peterson refused to stop, and police initiated a pursuit. A tactical vehicle intervention, a.k.a. PIT maneuver, was used, causing Peterson to veer off the road and hit a tree. A knife was recovered nearby. Later that morning, at approximately 6:30 a.m., 58-year-old Keith Harding was found deceased in another unit on the same floor, having suffered cuts to his arm and neck. Police believe the man shot by officers was responsible for Harding's death. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident.

The man was found unresponsive in his cell, and CPR was initiated. EMS and the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. This was the second in-custody death at the jail in less than three weeks. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.

On May 5, 2025, deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at a home in the 10000 block of Mustang Circle. After receiving no response, deputies heard a gunshot. A drone was deployed and revealed four deceased individuals inside with gunshot wounds. The deceased included Leroy Sadler, 60; his wife Judy Sadler; their son James Sadler; and granddaughter Adalynn Sadler. The deaths of Judy, James, and Adalynn were ruled homicides. Leroy Sadler is believed to be the shooter in an apparent murder-suicide.
