On the morning of May 8, 2025, Trooper Nolan J. The driver, later identified as 53-year-old Philip Aiken Brown of Creedmoor, provided false information during the stop. Jail staff immediately initiated life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, they were unsuccessful. On May 5, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., staff at the Athens-Clarke County Jail responded to a medical emergency involving a 32-year-old Black man inside one of the housing units. The man was found unresponsive in his cell, and CPR was initiated. EMS and the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. This was the second in-custody death at the jail in less than three weeks. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.

On May 5, 2025, deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at a home in the 10000 block of Mustang Circle. After receiving no response, deputies heard a gunshot. A drone was deployed and revealed four deceased individuals inside with gunshot wounds. The deceased included Leroy Sadler, 60; his wife Judy Sadler; their son James Sadler; and granddaughter Adalynn Sadler. The deaths of Judy, James, and Adalynn were ruled homicides. Leroy Sadler is believed to be the shooter in an apparent murder-suicide.
