OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On July 28, 2024, at approximately 12:00 a.m., Mentone Town Marshal Keaton Schopf attempted to stop a 2010 Chevrolet Impala for speeding on State Road 25 near Princeton Street in Mentone, Indiana. The driver, identified as 17-year-old Adam Charles McDaniels from Rochester, Indiana, failed to stop, leading to a pursuit southbound on State Road 25 from Kosciusko County into Fulton County. Shortly after crossing State Road 110, the Impala veered off the east side of the road for unknown reasons and collided with a tree. Despite lifesaving efforts, McDaniels was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. A juvenile passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital via medical helicopter.
