On February 26, 2025, at approximately 8:05 p.m., Maplewood Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on the 2200 block of McMenemy Street North. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a woman on the main level of the home and began gathering details. While speaking with her, officers heard what sounded like two gunshots coming from the basement. The woman was evacuated immediately, and officers attempted to communicate with the man believed to be in the basement, but received no response.
Recognizing the armed and potentially volatile nature of the situation, the Ramsey County SWAT team was activated. SWAT operators arrived with armored vehicles, ballistic shields, and full tactical gear, establishing a secure perimeter around the residence. Sniper-observer teams were positioned for overwatch, while negotiators attempted to make contact via loudspeakers from protected positions. Entry teams staged at access points with breaching tools and less-lethal equipment ready.
For nearly two hours, SWAT maintained containment while monitoring the structure. No sounds or movements were detected inside. A deliberate entry was then made under cover of ballistic shields and tactical lighting. Inside the basement, officers located the man deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
