On 07/27/2024, around 4:00 p.m., the Ventura County Sheriff's Office responded to an armed robbery at the Good Nite Inn on Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo. Deputies identified a likely vehicle and initiated a pursuit after the driver failed to comply with commands. During the chase, the fleeing vehicle veered onto the north shoulder of Central Avenue, west of Beardsley Road, and struck 58-year-old bicyclist Robert Eugene Pierret, who was returning home from his shift at St. John's Hospital Camarillo. Deputies immediately rendered aid, but Pierret succumbed to his injuries. The suspect continued fleeing and subsequently collided with another vehicle before being apprehended. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
