OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/28/2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Dyersburg Police Department officers responded to a residence on Keats Street after receiving a report that 34-year-old Courtney Alexander was threatening to harm himself and others.
According to investigators, officers encountered Alexander inside the residence while he was armed with a handgun. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and repeatedly ordered him to drop the firearm. Investigators stated that Alexander refused to comply and pointed the gun toward officers. Officers then fired, striking Alexander.
Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the request of the 29th Judicial District Attorney General, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation assumed responsibility for investigating the shooting. As of the latest publicly available information, the officers involved have not been identified and no public findings or prosecutorial determination have been released.
