OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/26/2024, deputies with the Kerr County Sheriff's Office went to a residence west of Kerrville to serve an arrest warrant for 46-year-old Jaron Joseph Harper on a charge of making a terroristic threat. According to the Sheriff's Office, Harper barricaded himself inside the home and refused to surrender.
Deputies and crisis negotiators attempted to communicate with Harper for more than three hours. During the standoff, multiple gunshots were heard from inside the residence. Deputies later entered the home and found Harper dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Texas Rangers were requested to investigate the incident. As of the latest publicly available information, no deputies have been publicly identified, there is no indication that deputies fired their weapons, and no additional public investigative findings have been released.
