On February 6, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Granite City police officers responded to a disturbance involving 39-year-old Donald J. Friese. Upon arrival, officers engaged in an altercation with Friese, who allegedly fired multiple shots, striking one officer in the arm. The officer was treated and released. Friese fled the scene on foot, later returning to his residence and escaping in a vehicle.

The following evening, February 7, 2024, Cape Girardeau police received an alert about a vehicle driven by Friese. The alert was triggered by an Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system. Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. Friese fled, and officers escalated the pursuit across the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge into Illinois. The chase continued until Friese's vehicle became stuck in a field near East Cape Girardeau.

Friese locked himself inside his vehicle and fired at law enforcement officers with a rifle. Officers returned fire, fatally striking Friese.

On 02/05/2024, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and SWAT units were alerted to a bank robbery in progress at a Bank of America in Ft. Myers, Florida. The incident was triggered by a silent alarm system within the bank, notifying authorities of a potential armed threat.

A combination of two drones and one robotic dog, equipped with cameras and sensors, was sent into the bank to provide real-time surveillance. On 02/05/2024, Altamonte Springs Police Department (ASPD) responded to a welfare check in the River Run neighborhood after residents reported that 65-year-old Eric Seckington was walking through the area with a rifle, acting strangely and appearing agitated. Upon arrival, officers encountered Seckington holding a rifle. Police reportedly issued firm commands for Seckington to drop the weapon, which he ignored. Police allege Seckington raised or attempted to position the rifle, prompting officers to open fire, striking and killing him. Seckington was pronounced dead at the scene.

Body camera footage released by ASPD shows officers approaching Seckington and issuing commands before the shooting occurred. At this time, the names of the officer(s) involved have not been disclosed.

Seckington had a history of mental illness, resulting in approximately 40 calls for service to his residence over the past year. Two weeks prior to the incident, he was assessed by the Aspire Mobile Response Unit and briefly hospitalized. Neighbors reported ongoing disturbances involving Seckington, including stalking and trespassing. A restraining order against him had been approved just minutes before the fatal encounter.

Edward Ahrens, a convicted sex offender, had abducted an 11-year-old girl in Knoxville, Tennessee, and fled with her to Catoosa County, Georgia. On February 2, 2024, law enforcement officers in Georgia surrounded Ahrens' vehicle. Spokane Police received a call about a suicidal man in mental health crisis, found him, allege he held 2 guns and shot and killed him. It does not appear that mental health crisis intervention was attempted.

Of the nine officers who all fired bullets into the man, this was Officer Johnson’s fourth shooting. He was cleared for two shootings and has 2 more under investigation. His shootings were in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024 so far. Officer Brunner is currently also under investigation for driving twice the speed limit and causing a crash that injured a couple. On 02/03/2024, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to a disturbance call in downtown Los Angeles.According to a 911 call reporting the incident, the caller described Jason Lee Maccani as "a fucking homeless dude" who was "on some shit," "very dangerous," and "kind of like tweaking out."
The man was later identified as Jason Lee Maccani, 36. Police initially reported that Maccani was carrying a stick, which scratched an officer during the confrontation. After attempting an undisclosed less-lethal method, likely a taser, officers shot and killed Maccani.

Further investigation revealed that the object in Maccani's possession was a plastic fork, not a stick as initially described. He had been unarmed and there is no report that he had been violent. Despite this, LAPD Officer Caleb Garcia-Alamilla fired the fatal shot. Officer Caleb Garcia-Alamilla remains under investigation for the February 3, 2024, shooting of Jason Lee Maccani. The California Department of Justice's Office of the Attorney General lists this case as "Under Investigation." The Los Angeles Police Department's specialized Force Investigation Division is also conducting an internal review. The findings will be evaluated by the Chief of Police, the Board of Police Commissioners, and the Office of the Inspector General to determine compliance with LAPD policies and procedures.

On February 3, 2024, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Carol Stream police responded to a domestic violence call at the Villagebrook Apartments. Officers spoke with the alleged victim, who reported a physical altercation with 30-year-old Isaac Goodlow, resulting in visible injuries. She provided consent for officers to enter the apartment, expressing concern for her dog and belongings left inside.

After approximately 50 minutes of attempts to contact Goodlow, officers obtained a key from the apartment manager and entered the unit. Upon opening the bedroom door, officers encountered Goodlow, who was shot once in the chest. Officers immediately called for paramedics and began administering aid. Goodlow was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His family contested the need for the shooting, stating he had never been violent and that police had “shot him down like a dog.”

Somerville PD traffic stopped John Baldwin for a brake light violation. It is unknown what transpired, but he allegedly flew into a rage and rammed the police vehicle with a K9 inside, then fled to a home and locked himself in. Police and SWAT arrived and standoff and sued. Extensive gunfire from a shootout with police as heard on dash cam video. The house quickly interrupted in flames and was totally destroyed. A 31-year-old woman sought refuge inside the gas station to escape her boyfriend, identified as 30-year-old Roshod Graham of Jacksonville. Graham used his vehicle to ram the gas station's doors multiple times in an attempt to reach the woman.

Upon officers' arrival, Graham fled.Police escalated a chase into Lauderhill during which, Graham allegedly rammed a police vehicle. The pursuit ended when Graham's car became inoperative after hitting a median in the 1600 block of NW 31st Avenue. Graham exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Officers allege that Graham resisted arrest and attempted to forcibly take an officer's firearm. An unknown number of officers opened fire, striking Graham.

EMS transported Graham to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The names of the officers involved have not been released. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

On February 1, 2024, at approximately 2 p.m., Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an incident at Forest Plaza in Silver Springs, Florida, where deputies encountered 33-year-old Kendra Boone. Boone entered a patrol vehicle and drove away with it. Deputies escalated a chase as Boone drove eastbound on State Road 40. The pursuit reached speeds over 100 mph, with Boone making multiple U-turns. During the chase, Boone attempted to pass a semi-truck via the right shoulder, lost control, and collided head-on with a 2016 GMC pickup truck driven by a bystander in the 26700 block of East Highway 40. The massive pursuit crash resulted in the deaths of Boone and two occupants of the pickup: 73-year-old Richard Earl Middleton and 72-year-old Diane Lynn Held, both from Waterloo, South Carolina. A third passenger in the pickup was critically injured. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

On February 1, 2024, Sgt. Michael Ewald of the Maricopa Police Department initiated a pursuit of a motorcycle after observing the rider, Demetrius Catus, speeding at approximately 80 mph in a 35 mph zone. Catus, who appeared unsteady while riding, fled from the officer after briefly stopping at an intersection. The pursuit intensified as Catus accelerated to speeds of up to 100 mph. As the chase continued, Catus lost control of the motorcycle while navigating a curve on North John Wayne Parkway near North Alterra Parkway. The crash occurred at around 3:09 a.m., resulting in Catus suffering fatal injuries, including a severe head injury and a broken neck. Despite the officer’s attempt to assist immediately, Catus was pronounced dead at the scene. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash.

Irving PD saw a vehicle they felt may be stolen and escalated a deadly high-speed chase on Interstate-35 that ended when the vehicle crashed, killing four occupants. Irving PD informed the media that the incident is under investigation and no more information would be released during investigation. When asked about their pursuit policy, they replied that it would require a public records request to obtain a copy of it. This comes at a time when the Fort Worth PD refused to post its pursuit policy and sued the Texas Attorney General to continue withholding this vital public record. It is not possible to find out more about this chase, its deceased victims, the circumstances and necessity of the fatal chase due to organized stonewalling by north Texas police departments.

Sabria Denise Lacey, 21; Anthony Isaiah Lisbon, 21; DeAvion Raejon Aubert, 22; and Robert Alexander Gowans Jr., 21, were all killed in the crash.
