OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/26/2024, Lampasas police responded to a report of a man refusing to leave the backyard of a residence. Officers identified the man as 56-year-old Charles Dougherty and issued him a criminal trespass warning before he left the area.
Approximately one hour later, police received reports of gunfire at the same residence. Officers entered the home and found two women, later identified as 71-year-old Deborah Boyd and 44-year-old Katherine Boyd, dead from gunshot wounds. Investigators determined that someone had forcibly entered the home before the killings.
Law enforcement agencies including the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol, Texas Rangers, Texas DPS Special Response Team, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Lampasas County Sheriff's Office, and Texas State Parks Police responded after locating Dougherty barricaded inside a residence at 203 North Arnold Street.
Following a standoff, officers entered the residence and found Dougherty dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators stated that Dougherty was believed to be responsible for the killings of Deborah and Katherine Boyd. As of the latest publicly available information, there is no indication that law enforcement officers fired their weapons during the incident.
