OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/24/2024, Sacramento Police Department officers responded to a welfare check for 51-year-old James Dalehart, who was reportedly intoxicated and threatening self-harm. Upon arrival in the 3600 block of Jasmine Street in East Del Paso Heights, officers observed Dalehart holding a knife, which he threw before fleeing and locking himself inside a nearby vehicle. After engaging in de-escalation efforts, officers removed Dalehart from the vehicle, handcuffed him, and placed him in the back of a patrol car. While waiting for Sacramento Fire Department personnel to assess his condition, Dalehart became unresponsive. Despite emergency medical aid, he was pronounced dead at a hospital. Authorities have not determined the cause of death, though drug influence and high temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit are being considered as contributing factors.
