On July 23, 2024, Tulare County Sheriff's deputies arrested 47-year-old Ricardo Navarro during a home invasion incident. Upon arrival, deputies found Navarro holding a knife, which he threw before locking himself inside a vehicle. Deputies removed him from the vehicle, restrained him, and transported him to the South County Detention Facility for booking. During the booking process, deputies removed Navarro's leg restraints, at which point he allegedly became combative. Deputies restrained him again, and he was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Tulare County Sheriff's Office reported that Navarro died of natural causes.
