On 07/23/2024, a Barberton Police Department officer attempted to stop a motorcycle being operated by 53-year-old Gregory Stevens. According to investigators, Stevens continued riding away, and officers pursued him into Akron.
While traveling through the 1400 block of Kenmore Boulevard, Stevens' motorcycle collided with a van. He was ejected from the motorcycle, and both he and the motorcycle struck a parked tractor-trailer. The impact ruptured the tractor's fuel tank, causing a fire. Stevens was transported to Akron General Hospital, where he died from blunt-force injuries to his head and torso.
