On July 21, 2024, at approximately 11:56 p.m., San Francisco Police Department officers responded to an armed robbery reported on the unit block of McAllister Street. Officers located a suspect, identified as Beto, also known as Nicoya, near Van Ness Avenue and Willow Street. Upon attempting to make contact, Beto fled. During the pursuit, Beto allegedly fired at the officers, prompting an officer to return fire, striking him. Beto was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident is under investigation by the San Francisco Police Department's Internal Affairs Division, the Department of Police Accountability, and the District Attorney's Office.
