On February 28, 2022 at approximately 4:40 p.m., Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Yerington Police Department officers, and Nevada State Police troopers responded to multiple 911 reports of a person armed with a firearm inside Rosie’s Place Restaurant and Mini-Market on Highway 208 in Wellington, Lyon County, Nevada. Law enforcement made contact with the individual and, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the person was shot and killed by a deputy at the location during the encounter. The decedent was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nevada Division of Investigation (NDI) handled the investigative lead, and the sheriff’s office stated the deputy involved was placed on administrative leave pending standard policy review.
