OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/27/2022, Houston Police officers located a vehicle in northeast Houston that had been reported carjacked at gunpoint earlier that day. Officers initiated a traffic stop near North Wayside Drive and Tidwell Road. The driver, later identified as 24-year-old Marcelo Alfredo Suarez, exited the vehicle and ran.
Officers pursued Suarez on foot into a grassy area near the 7800 block of Tidwell Road. According to Houston Police, Suarez fired a handgun during the encounter. Officers Paul Foster, D. Jenkins, and Cody Welch discharged their service weapons, striking Suarez multiple times.
Suarez was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the HPD Internal Affairs Division reviewed the shooting. Houston Police later released body-worn camera and dash camera footage of the encounter.
