On 07/19/2024, Alabama State Police initiated a pursuit of a motorcycle driven by Johenam Moises Fernandez Alvarez on Houston County Road 55 near Alabama 52 in Dothan. Police began the chase after Alvarez allegedly refused to stop during an attempted traffic stop for a suspected traffic violation. The pursuit was escalated to high speeds, reportedly exceeding 100 mph. Alvarez lost control of the motorcycle, crashing into a ditch. He died from injuries sustained in the pursuit crash. The Alabama State Police are investigating the incident.
