OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On July 16, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., deputies from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office arrived at a residence on Cedar Drive in Alto, Georgia, to serve an arrest warrant for probation violations to registered sex offender Joshua Everett Emmett, aged 45. Emmett had prior convictions, including child molestation, sexual battery against a child under 16, and felony statutory rape.

At around 11:05 a.m., deputies entered the home, though it remains unclear whether they were let in or forcibly entered. During the operation, deputies opened fire, resulting in the deaths of Emmett and 33-year-old Meagan Victoria Feaster of Forsyth, Georgia. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
