On 07/14/2024, LAPD vice officers in plain clothes were conducting undercover operations related to prostitution when they responded to a call of shots fired near 66th and Flower Streets. Officers claimed to have seen 18-year-old Ricardo “Ricky” Ramirez Jr. wearing a ski mask and arguing with another driver. This prompted LAPD officers to pursue the vehicle Ramirez was in, leading to a 75-mile high-speed chase. The vehicle eventually stopped near W 65th Street and S Flower Street in Ontario, where Ramirez allegedly approached the unmarked police vehicle. Vice officers opened fire at close range, killing him.
